Shock Horror ...........

............ BPS In Focus discovers that the Membership Secretary has finally managed to get her camera out of her bag, and even more surprising was that she remembered how to switch it on!

Bob Faris Retrospective
The BPS walls are resplendent with an exhibition of prints by long-standing member and former President Bob Faris. Bob is one of the longest serving members of the Society, having joined in 1972. He has delved deep into his archive and come up with a personal retrospective of his distinguished and continuing photographic career. As many of you who were at this week's meeting will have seen, this an exhibition of work that should not be missed.

Dates For Your Diary
A few things to put in your diary for the weeks ahead:

Dorset Independent Photographers are going to whisk their audience away on a world tour from the snowstorms of Iceland to the heat of Cuba at their Annual Exhibition at Gardens House in Dorchester’s Borough Gardens from 22 - 29 August. The show, which has become a firm fixture in the Dorset arts calendar, features the work of six photographers, whose images also celebrate the beauty of the south-west in a variety of styles using traditional film and digital media in both monochrome and colour. The exhibition is open every day from 10am to 5pm. More details here

ThunderCat Racing - This is a new event to this neck of the woods and is a very exciting form of powerboat racing using 4 metre inflatable catamarans all fitted with hugely powerful engines strapped to their rear ends. The racing takes place over the Bank Holiday weekend (27 - 28 August) and will run over a course based around Clevedon Pier. Full details can be found here.

Lawn Mower Racing - Fed up with those genteel Sunday afternoon flits around your lawn with the Flymo? If so, the place to be over the Bank Holiday weekend is just off the A38 at Lower Weare near Axbridge. This is a weekend to suit all, F1 lawnmowers, music, classic cars - and if none of that floats your boat, there is always the beer tent! For full details, please go to their website - www.mendipmowing.co.uk

Frampton Country Fair - This annual event is being held on 11 September at Frampton on Severn. This covers everything that you'd expect to find at a country fair from green wellies to an aerobatic display. Please visit their website for full details.

Colin Varndell - Sodbury & Yate Camera Club are hosting a special event on 12 September. They have invited the renowned landscape and wildlife photographer Colin Varndell to give one of his special talks. The event will be held at the Charter Suite at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall. Tickets (£5) can be obtained through tickets@sypc.org.uk or by ringing Eileen 01454 778882.
