Bank Holiday glowing greetings

We hope that you are reading this newsletter refreshed from the long weekend and contented by all that glorious extra knitting time. Although it may be back to the grind for some, S&B London are here to put some knitting love into your life: be sure to scroll all the way down for special money off vouchers to be won.

The last couple of meetings have brought out the brave knitters in you. We were amazed by how many of you (some with fabulous large-eyed plastic companions) braved the torrential downpour to sit under an umbrella at Kingsly Court and knit while rain dripped down your backs (and even learn to knit in those conditions). And the weather was just as kind on the way to the caverns of The Old Star, where a dragon took shape, a knitty bag was completed, and a knitted wig was sported. S&B Londoner’s are truly the hardcore of the knit.

In other news our message board vote has so far received a fantastic response of almost 60 votes. Thanks to those who have voted so far. However, with over 1000 of you on this mailing list we know you can do better. So if you haven’t already voted, click here to vote or click here to see the votes so far. Don’t forget, you are able to vote “Shhhh, stop asking me questions. I am trying to knit!”

On to the meetings...

Stitch and Attempting The First Park Knit Of The Year (What Fools!)

Details of the next meeting:

For some reason, we expected some sun this summer. We were wrong about that. But just for the hell of it, we are going to knit in the park anyway. If all else fails, we will sit indoors at the park café and gaze dreamily out the window at the green whilst knitting. So grab your galoshes, your sun cream, and your pic-er-nic blankets and head for the park.

TUESDAY, 28TH AUGUST
Time: From 6pm
Venue: St. James's Park. On the grass by the café called ‘Inn The Park' (or actually inside the café if it's raining)
Westminster
London
SW1A 2BJ

Tel: 020 7451 9999

Map Nearest Tube: St. James’s Park, Charing Cross, Westminster

Stitch and Lit

Details of the meeting after next:

We return to our usual haunt in QEH to mingle with cultural types and get our knit on by the riverside. On this night they're going a bit literary with an event involving the Nobel Prize for Literature winner for 2006, so we're knitting with nobility. Prepare to be asked what you think you are doing by people going to the performance; you haven't really knitted at QEH until you have shocked a passerby by knitting brazenly in public there.

WEDNESDAY, 5TH SEPTEMBER
Time: From 6pm
Venue: Queen Elizabeth Hall - Level 2 Terrace Bar
Address: Queen Elizabeth Hall
Belvedere Road
South Bank
London
SE1

Tel: 020 7921 0758

Stitch and the Knitting Prince

At S&B London, we love all things Japanese (especially amigurumi). So when our very own Stitchette, Joelle, took a visit to Tokyo this month, naturally, her first priority was to meet S&B Tokyo. Let's see what our very own ‘Knitting Ninja' has to say about stitching in the land of the rising sun.

"The group meet in the heart of Tokyo once a fortnight. Just like at S&B London, we knitted, ate, drank and enjoyed one another's company and knitting tips.

What most intrigued me about my visit, was learning about Japan's Knitting Prince! I could not believe Japan has its own knitting royalty! And he had paid a special visit to S&B Tokyo the previous year.

Mitsuharu Hirose truly is Prince (if not a King) of the knitting world in Japan. He is adored by the ladies and is a master of the art of knitting and crochet. He studied knitting at college and worked as an editor on Nihon Vogue. He always wears his fabulous creations proudly, like true knitting royalty.

The lucky ladies of S&B Tokyo even had the pleasure of listening to him sing his knitting song to them! See Kat's blog here for all the details and photos of the Knitting Prince's visit to S&B Tokyo."
