So...

We had an impeachment thing...

That didn't work.

And now we have a vindictive, vengeful, spray-tan Nero raging through the White House, convinced he is surrounded by a nation of traitors, and convinced he has the power to do as he pleases to punish them.

We also have a Senate half-filled with Republicans some of whom openly said they would not be impartial, and who then took an oath - upon pain of imprisonment - that they would be impartial.

Shouldn't they be in prison?

In ancient Rome Senators could only be elected if they were already members of the "senatorial" class. And once the Empire was established removal of a senator was almost impossible... as long as they were on the emperor's good side.

So I guess some of our current Senatorial class aren't worried about losing their position, as long as they keep our Nero happy.

Book by Terrence McNally
Music by Stephen Flaherty  Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens
From the novel by  E. L. Doctorow
Directed by Robert Kelley
Apr 1–May 3, 2020

This timeless musical masterpiece celebrates the soaring sounds and hopeful spirit of America at the dawn of the last century. To the syncopated rhythms of an optimistic new age, this unforgettable theatrical tapestry interweaves the delights of vaudeville, baseball, and nickelodeon with the hurly-burly of labor rallies and racial unrest, tracing the lives of an enterprising Jewish immigrant, a courageous Harlem pianist, and an upper-class wife brilliantly combined in a jubilant, melting pot tribute to the American Dream.

Velina will be teaching wih the ATLAS program for Theatre Bay Area Saturday, February 22.

ATLAS (Advanced Training Leading Artists to Success) gives actors, directors, and playwrights invaluable tools to develop their career plans and offers a limited number of grants for implementation of these plans.

Since the program's inception in 2008, ATLAS has trained hundreds of theatre-makers in crucial career skills such as time management, goal setting and financial matters. In 2013, the program offered its first round of training to playwrights, complementing existing programming for actors and directors. Each round typically contains 20-40 artists.
The ATLAS program is designed to meet the needs of theatre artists wishing to go from "Point A" to "Point B" in their careers—wherever their "Point A" might be. In other words, this is intended for all artists: emerging and mid-career, as well as established artists looking for something new in their careers

Velina's section will be on:

  • Goal Setting
  • Career Mapping
  • Self Care for the Actor
