FIAP Biennial
News from Mike Martin (External Competitions Secretary):

You will recall Barry Mead and Mike Martin each had 2 images accepted as part of the PAGB English entry to the FIAP Biennial in France – in the Creative Portraits theme (Newsletter 420 refers).
There was a separate competition for 10 colour prints, the theme being “Minimalism”. None of our images were selected for that theme.

This was to have been judged in February, but was much delayed due to Covid.

The judging has now been completed. Although the PAGB–English entry for minimalism won (congratulations to all participants), sadly within the Creative Portrait category the PAGB-English entry came 22nd out of 42 countries participating.

In terms of points awarded we received 184, which would have placed us equally 18th were it not for the coherence points that edged others ahead of us [Turkey who scored highest overall by some margin suffered a similar fate dropping to 4th overall once the coherence weighting was added].

Scoring appeared to hard (not sure what the scale is) but an delighted to report Barry Mead has been awarded a Silver Medal - well done Barry.
  •  Barry Mead - Last Look Back - 12 - Silver
  •  Barry Mead - Wheels of Time - 10
  •  Mike Martin - Face off             -   9
  •  Mike Martin - Black Look        - 10
The average score for the 20 England entries was 9.2 so the above are good scores – the highest average was 10.75 and the overall winners averaging  10.15 points per image!

The full results are attached to this newsletter.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Last week I mentioned that Anita Fullerton had gained her CPAGB distinction, this should in fact have read Rachel Domleo had gained her CPAGB - sorry!

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

For Sale
Graham Reeves has kindly offered his Logan 550-1 Mat Cutter for sale, this is hardly used, and is therefore in very good condition. Graham has said that all proceeds should go to BPS funds, so if you are interested in buying this and would like to make an offer, please email me at bpsnewsletter@bristolphoto.org.uk and I will put it to Graham. This is a quality item, so sensible bids only please.

Below is a copy of the best priced ad that I could find on the web. To see more about the cutter, please follow this link

If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include it in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).

IMPORTANT: Personal Detail Changes
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk

The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, please remember, if you don't tell us we can't possibly know!
