How to Narrow the Gap in Education?
Jennifer Barr, Indigenous Research Officer in Australian Anglican Schools, will talk about how Independent schools are working to try and narrow the gap in Indigenous and non-Indigenous educational achievement.

She will discuss the private school's role in Indigenous education addressing issues such as the current ideology of ‘self-determination’, the moral ambiguities of Indigenous scholarship programs, and the possibilities for two-way cultural learning in forging a positive spirit of ‘white man’s dreaming’.

Dr Barr has been a Research Consultant in Education for the past ten years, investigating  a range of topics, including policies of inclusion of second generation migrant secondary students, collaboration between youth work organisations and local schools in a disadvantaged locale, and policy and practice regarding child safety education in childcare centres.

When: 24 April at 7.30pm

Where: Suzie Boyd’s house - 2 houses west of Tennis wharf on the waterfront.
