HOW TO HELP ANIMALS

Always remember to check with your local shelter to see what they need. Your donation will go directly to the animals, as a rule, in sharp contrast to some of the large national groups, whose donation income goes toward large administrative salaries and other expenses, not always for animals. But to be sure, be prepared to check out the shelter. Not all of them are as honorable as they proclaim.

Get ready for summer with some flea prevention and treatment  tips:

(Be patient; this site takes a while to load.)
July 1, 2015
Hello Fellow Cat Lovers,

You may have noticed this issue is coming to you on July 1st...a full week earlier than usual. It occurred to me that I never get to say Happy Fourth of July because the newsletter comes out on the 7th.

Well, this year I'm going to get in early so I can say that, but also because I won't have time next week to write anything. There is a lot going on at our house this summer and I'll be very busy supervising the grandkids while they play with all the animals.

There is much to be done fixing up the old farmstead, too. At nearly 100 years old, this place needs a lot of replacin' and repairin' before winter sets in again.

So while I'm thinking of it, if you're in the U.S., have a Happy Independence Day! Just remember to keep your pets safely inside during the noisy parts of the festivities. Frightened pets get lost every year because of the fireworks. In fact, July 5th is the busiest day of the year for rescue shelters.

Everyone else...well, have a happy 4th of July also, no matter what. It will be the 4th day of the month whether you celebrate it or not. If you would like to find a pet holiday to observe this month, here is a list to get started:

National Lost Pet Prevention Month™. Learn how to keep your pets from becoming lost in this month-long observance launched by PetHub.

July 15: National Pet Fire Safety Day. Sponsored by the The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), ADT Security Services and the American Kennel Club® (AKC).

July 21: National Craft for your Local Shelters Day.
