Hello Firstname

Wednesday, 23 March
Next Wednesday we have a late replacement for the published speaker when our speaker will be Dag Pike who will present his talk A seagoing adventure in photographs. Dag began his career as a merchant captain, went on to test RNLI lifeboats, and took up fast boat navigation, winning a string of trophies for powerboat races around the world, including navigating Richard Branson's Virgin Atlantic Challenger on the record-breaking fastest Atlantic crossing by powerboat. He is now a navigation and powerboat journalist in demand all round the world. Many thanks to Dag for stepping in at such short notice.

Projected Image Competition
The final round of the current Projected Image Competition season was judged by BPS member John Chamberlin FRPS MFIAP.
John should be thanked for what was both an excellent evening's judging and a huge sacrifice he made by foregoing an evening in front of the TV watching his beloved Arsenal crash out of the Champions League by losing 3-1 to Barcelona (5-1 on aggregate).
Here are the results of the final round:

Studio Group - Workshop
Nick Ball has arranged a spectacular one day event from 10am until 4pm on Tuesday 5 April. To sign up, please click on this link and fill in your details. Please make sure that you add your email address and mobile telephone number so Nick can confirm your place and advise should there be any last minute changes.

Mentoring
The BPS Council has been considering a proposal to offer one-to-one mentoring. Following the recent questionnaire in this newsletter to see if any members felt they would like menotoring, it was found that a small number felt that they would benefit from this. Although the interest is relatively small, it is nonetheless there, and it is felt it should be available to those that want it, as part of the club’s services to photography and the membership.
Needless to say, if people would like mentoring, people will be needed to be mentors. If you would you be interested in mentoring someone, please download this form and return it, duly completed, to John Hudson (give it to any Council member if you can't find John).

Calumet
What a plonker; I wondered why nobody responded to this item last week. Thanks to Margaret Collis I have discovered that I put the wrong email address in, I have now corrected this.
Andy Hoang, BPS member and Calumet manager, has suggested that it might be a good idea to have a late night opening once a month on a Wednesday, so that BPS members can combine a trip to club with a trip to "the shops". Before Andy commits to this, we need to gauge the likely support for this so that he can decide whether it is going to be a worthwhile exercise, so could you please email me at newsletter@bristolphoto.org.uk to let me know if you would be likely to take advantage of this service. When emailing, would you please just put CALUMET in the subject line.

Book
We have received the following:
HOW TO TAKE GREAT PHOTOGRAPHS
We have recently published a book that we think will interest your members. Within the book experienced and successful photographers talk about how and why they created their images. Each photographer’s work is accompanied by their explanation of how and why they chose to make their image and information about what motivates their photography. Camera and settings information are provided alongside the images.
The book has been well received by the PAGB and local camera clubs. It is available direct from us and from Amazon (link).
We can also offer a discount to your members if they would like to order a copy.

Yours sincerely,
Clive Woodyear
Editor

A preview copy of the book is now in the club library.
