Howdy Friends and Family,

Crude Awakening Oil Train Tour
I’ve been touring hard the last few months doing two simultaneous tours: “The Great Salish Sea Tour” (releasing my new album) and “The Crude Awakening Oil Train Tour.” Matt Krogh (of ForestEthics) and I are conducting the oil train tour to raise awareness about the proposed increase of explosive oil trains through Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana (not to mention throughout much of the U.S. and Canada). The oil from these trains would be exported through proposed expanded oil ports on the coasts of Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia. This is the same type of oil that exploded in Quebec killing 47 people a year ago. Not only do these trains pose the danger of blowing up entire neighborhoods, the exported oil in tankers poses a much greater risk of oil spills in the Salish Sea (the inland sea of Washington and British Columbia).

How We Will Beat the Proposed Increase in Oil Trains
(Same way we are beating the proposed coal export trains)
Two years ago there were six proposed coal ports in Washington and Oregon. Today there are three. Three down, three to go. The reason three coal ports were canceled is because of the huge public opposition to the coal trains coming through our communities. Investors pulled out of the three coal port projects, causing their cancelation.

The oil trains are even more dangerous to our communities than the coal trains. Once the public realizes that there are “bomb trains” coming through our cities next to elementary schools, hospitals, and homes, we will be well positioned to halt the increase in these trains. Our region should not have to bear the incredible risk associated with exploding oil trains and oil spills so that big oil companies can make a mint exporting American oil to Asia. While of course the Pacific Northwest still uses oil, we are working successfully to reduce the amount we use, and want to carefully regulate how that oil is brought into our region. Matt gives a Powerpoint presentation on the oil trains and tankers. I sing a few comedy songs and attempt to rally the troops.
