What? Yet another Appliantology newsletter (YAAN)? I know, I sent out the Winter 2010 Appliantology newsletter in December. But so much has happened since then that I thought it merited YAAN.

Hope your New Year is going well. We had a blast at the Appliance Rock Concert featuring yours so abnormally truly and the Golden Buttcracks.

In case you don't know who they are, come meet the Golden Buttcracks:

1. New Format for Appliantology

Any of you who've subscribed to this newsletter for a while have seen various formats-- from PDFs to Google Docs, we've tried 'em all. Well, now I'm taking a step back to the stone age and doing this issue in 100% plain text. No images, no HTML; just text. It's a helluva lot easier to produce and it's compatible with every email program out there. Drop me a line and let me know what you think of this vs. the other formats I've used in the past; I'd really like to hear from you:

2. Samurai Appliance Repair Forum Orphan Prevention Program (OPP)

In response to an emerging crisis, Mrs. Samurai has posted an article that's near and dear to her heart outlining our Orphan Prevention Program (OPP) at the Samurai Appliance Repair Forums. It's for the children!

Appliance Haikus

OK, quick review of haikus for those of you who missed the last issue. Haikus are:

- An ancient Japanese poetic form. Some dude named Basho was/is the most famous Japanese haiku poet.

- Haikus consist of three short lines: five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the third.

- The third line leads the reader to enlightenment of the problem posed in first two lines.

Turns out that haikus are also a succinct way to convey appliance repair info!

I’ve posted lots of haikus at fixitnow.com; you can see ‘em here:

http://fixitnow.com/wp/category/haikus-for-appliance-repair/

Now, you can unleash your inner Basho and post your own haikus in the Haiku Forum:

You don’t even need to register in the forum to post haikus in the Haiku Forum!

Sublime Master appl.tech.29501 is our most prolific appliance haiku writer.
Hope to see yours there, too!

4. Tips and Tricks for Finding Appliance Repair Wisdom

As you're doubtless aware, you can search both the blog (fixitnow.com) and the forum (applianceguru.com) using the Google search in the header block at the Fixitnow.com and Applianceguru.com. The site search is highlighted in the blog's header block here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/zenzoidman/4336367186/sizes/o/

Both searches produce the same results, with matching search results from both the blog and forum combined on one page. Most of the time, this is ver gooten, as they say in zie fazzahland.

But sometimes this can be overwhelming and you want to search just the blog or just the forum. Well, lemme show you how that's done.

To search just the blog (fixitnow.com), scroll down while looking in the sidebar until you see the search form entitled, "Use the Search, Lurch!" Looky here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/zenzoidman/4339250452/sizes/o/

Results from the search are from only Fixitnow.com and are shown on-site with a brief synopsis for each return. Try it out.

To search just the forum, applianceguru.com, use the following URL as shown:

http://www.applianceguru.com/search.php?s=1&q=term1+term2

Just replace "term1" and "term2" with your search terms. You can add as many search terms as you like. If you only have one search term, leave off the rest. Eess piece of pie, da? Ha, ha, ha, you clever Ameedicans catch on qweek!

Oops! Sorry, I turned Russian there for a moment. OK, back in Samurai mode and moving on…

5. Appliance Trends

As the economy continues to sink further into the Al-Qaeda (did you know that this is Arabic slang for "toilet?" Now I ax you, thoughtful reader: what self-respecting terrorist group would name itself after a freakin' terlet? Sounds fictitious to me. How 'bout you?), and people have less and less money to spend, the trend will be to build appliances that are super-duper squeaky cheap. But, I'm not the only wise apple on the block saying that; none other than the Master of Trends, Gerald Celente, is saying it in the latest issue of his newsletter, "Trends Journal." Let's listen:

"Technological invention and innovation, until recently regarded as a Western monopoly, has moved to the uncharted seas of India and the Far East’s consumers. Limited individual buying power multiplied by billions of potential buyers constitutes a market for a new class of product, while providing substantial incomes and creative careers for the East’s surfeit of indigenous engineers and entrepreneurs.

The most conspicuous fruit of the trend is the Nano, India’s $2200 car. Less conspicuous, but perhaps more significant, are such hi-tech/low cost products as a $23 stove, $43 water purifier, $70 refrigerator, a two-cent per minute $20 cell phone — all life-enhancing, once prohibitively expensive Western products radically reconfigured for emerging Eastern market realities."

Wow, major kitchen appliances for less than $100 each! What do you think that will do to the appliance repair trade? How repairable will such appliances be? And will they even bother making replacement parts for such appliances? So many questions it's making me dizzy… or maybe I've just had too many brewskis tonight. I dunno, but I think I kinda like being dizzy.

BTW, you can download the latest issue of Celente's "Trends Journal" here and read for yourself what he has to say:

The other big trend coming in appliances is that soon, too soon, all appliances will be what's called "Smart Grid-enabled." If you're not familiar with the Orwellian Smart Grid, you soon will be. Smart Grid is where bureaucrats will be able to monitor all your power usage-- not just how much you're using, but *how* you're using it and on what appliances. Sound like something out of a Sci-Fi movie? Nyet, tovarish-- it's all part of the global plantation. Welcome to the new feudalism. I posted an article about Smart Grid at my site which I recommend you read:

http://fixitnow.com/wp/2010/01/14/smart-grid-green-dream-or-just-another-big-brother-control-grid/

Oh, yeah, freaky-deeky! They'd rather have you cold and shivering in the dark than to build more power plants. Who are "they?" Why, the international monetary crime syndicate otherwise known as banksters.

Think I'm being hysterical? Well, even the lame-stream media is starting to wake up and smell the tyranny. Bloomberg News (lame-stream enough for ya?), recently ran an article openly wondering about something that the hard money crowd has known about for generations: a small group of international banksters are the real shadow government behind the visible "elected" government. Congress is a dog-and-pony show and the president is just a figurehead for this international monetary elite. Read it for yourself:

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601039&sid=aaIuE.W8RAuU

Speaking of lame-stream, you Glenn Beck fans out there need to watch this montage of flip-flops by your guru:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6C6E6ayh4U&feature=player_embedded

Beck is a fake revolutionary who has hijacked the freedom movement and is being used to lead conservatives and libertarians down the rabbit hole. He's a dangerous, pathological liar, much like another liar we all knew…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ypsEmg9yOs&feature=player_embedded

Just so you know, I'm a political atheist; both parties, the D's and R's, are both bought and paid for by the big bankers on Wall Street. You gotta be a child to think they're looking out for your interests.

And to show you that the Samurai is an equal opportunity destroyer, here's a clip highlighting just one of the "Messiah's" Big Lies:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLEg-1NkEVE&feature=player_embedded

Do you get it yet? They ALL lie! As Alex Jones says, we are truly living in an Orwellian State:

6. New Hillstomping Photos from Zenzoidman

Let's end up on a happy note. The hillstomping has been superlative this year. The best so far was my hike up Franconia Ridge in the White Mountains. Turn your speakers up and check out the slideshow. (Best viewed in full-screen mode):
