David Harris author of The Genius: How Bill Walsh Reinvented Football and Created an NFL Dynasty
Tuesday, October 7th at 7:00 PM

In the annals of sport, few individuals have had as great an impact on their game-or on its relevance to life outside the lines-as Bill Walsh. With knowledge, skill, passion, and a critical eye, David Harris reveals in The Genuis the brilliant man behind the coaching legend. David Harris is the author of ten books-including his widely acclaimed study of the professional football business, The League-and a former contributing editor at The New York Times Magazine and Rolling Stone. He has been a 49ers fan since he was ten and first crossed paths with Bill Walsh as a Stanford student in the 1960's. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.

“ ...Harris clearly knows his football, but the personal drama of Walsh's career is told with such verve that even nonfans will be riveted. ” —Publishers Weekly

Amy Bloom author of Away
Tuesday, October 14th at 7:00 PM

Away is the epic and intimate story of young Lillian Leyb, a dangerous innocent, an accidental heroine. When her family is destroyed in a Russian pogrom, Lillian comes to America alone, determined to make her way in a new land. When word comes that her daughter, Sophie, might still be alive, Lillian embarks on an odyssey that takes her from the world of the Yiddish theater on New York's Lower East Side, to Seattle's jazz district, and up to Alaska, along the fabled Telegraph Trail toward Siberia.

“Echoes of Ragtime, Cold Mountain and Irving Howe's World of Our Fathers, in an amazingly dense, impressively original novel.” —Kirkus Reviews

Richard Blair and Kathleen Goodwin authors of California Trip
Thursday, October 16th at 7:00 PM

California Trip spans nearly 40 years... from Grace Slick onstage at Altamont to nude sunbathers on the San Mateo coast to rodeo performers in Guerneville to face-painted children at Make-A-Circus in Oakland. It's not just a picture postcard. As the title declares, it's a trip.” —Contra Costa Times

Vicki Tiernan author of Almost Perfect: Disabled Pets and the People Who Love Them
Thursday, October 23rd at 7:00 PM
