Your allotment federation
needs you!

Dear Plot Holders,

The Brighton and Hove Allotment Federation (BHAF) is YOUR voice.

Funded from a small levy on your annual rent, BHAF represents tenants’ interests to the Council and is a partner with the Council in implementing the Allotments Strategy. Please see our website for details on what we do.

Over the last year, BHAF has been particularly busy in trying to create a more functional relationship with the Council. We have also been working closely with Jim Mayor, the Allotments Project Officer in CityParks (and a plot holder himself). There is a large agenda still to be addressed, from maintenance issues on the ground through lettings problems to the challenges of climate change and bio-diversity.

BUT we need more volunteers to take these issues forward. We need some new faces with enthusiasm, drive and relevant skills to join our existing small group of active committee members. We also need some replacements for people who are stepping down in the near future. There are some real opportunities to make a difference and help nurture and protect our precious allotments.

So, this is a plea to you all to consider offering your services.
We are particularly looking for individuals to fill the following roles:

•    BHAF Secretary
To replace the current Secretary who is stepping down in April.
•    Development Fund Co-ordinator
These roles may appeal to someone with previous voluntary sector or other committee and organizational experience OR someone wishing to gain experience by working initially with the relevant existing office holders.

•    Social Media and/or Website Person
Our website runs on a Wordpress CMS which is very easy to use.
•    Innovations lead
to take forward new initiatives on issues like water savings, climate emergency planning and bio-diversity. This would involve trialing new ideas and convening working groups from across the wider membership. This could appeal to a wide range of skills and interests and is potentially an area where several people could take on specific initiatives.

If you are interested or simply would like to find out more about opportunities to get involved, please email us with some information about your skills and interests.

If you would like to talk to either the Chair or Secretary, please include your preferred phone contact details. The list above is not exclusive and we are keen to hear from anyone who would like to get more involved with the management and protection of allotments in Brighton and Hove.

Thanks!
Mark
