"Kat Bytes"
the monthly newsletter of StudioKat Designs
Issue #181  August 2020

So I hate to admit it, but I've been a little "down in the mouth" of late. For me, it's challenging to not let current circumstances be an excuse for not being productive. It's rough right now trying to figure out how to use this time at home in a meaningful & productive way. Can you relate? But you know what?
The best way I've found to get myself out of a funk has always been the same! I find that if I make myself think creatively to...make something...fix something...or start something, that I generally find that I created a little fun in the process! And that's always a good place to start!

August 2020 "Eye Candy"
The bags you see below are among those that customers have shared recently on either our FaceBook business page, our Instagram feed or on our Group page on FaceBook. So thanks to EVERYONE! They were ALL great but here's a few of my favorites!

(For LARGER images: Click on each individual pic)

Here’s a Triple Play with a truly UNIQUE combination of fabrics and they totally work together. Nancy Rosa did a great job on this bag and it would be a blast to carry it!

Donna Lamont was hugely disappointed when she lost her June vacation due to the Covid-19 virus so she self-soothed by making our new design, the Side Slinger! She used cork for the exterior & added claw clasps to the zippers to prevent pilfering!

This is Beth Hall‘s 2nd Sling Along which she created for her sister who is thrilled with it. I love the bold, bright colors and my favorite part is the ombre-effect on the Strap!

And here’s Nancy Rosa‘s take on our Bellagio Bag which was actually one of the very 1st patterns we ever released, but even though this pattern is quite old now, its still relevant as you can see!
Here’s Mary Lou Wightman and her new Side Slinger, hot off her machine. She said her bag came together seamlessly & as you can see… she LOVES it!

And it’s been a while since we’ve had an Odyssey featured here but this one by Nancy Rosa is surely a beauty. Nancy said she modified this design a bit by borrowing the adjustable straps w/Tabs feature we included in the Sling Along pattern!
Cheryl Suitt LOVES creating new Go-Go Compacts… but she decided to venture out of her comfort zone and try her hand at our new Side Slinger pattern, with a very beautiful (and very Egyptian) result!

Debbie McDonald said that she generally does not use her favorite fabrics when she’s trying out a new pattern, but that even so, she REALLY likes how her new Side Slinger turned out!
Tracy Williams said that this may be her first Sling Along, but that it definitely will not be her last! This fabric is artist-designed from Spoonflower.

Inge Lund tell me that she creates store sample for Gittea Patchwork in Denmark, one of our best wholesale customers and here is her take on our HipBag Hybrid design!

Whether you’re entering the job market after college or moving on from an old relationship, we know things change in people’s lives, and we want to make it easy for you to curate your presence on Facebook to more accurately reflect who you are today.
The archive feature is for hiding stuff you no longer want others to see on Facebook, but that you still want to keep for yourself. For example, you could archive a post you made when you were in high school that you still find amusing but that you’d rather not be seen by anyone else on Facebook.

In the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, many people began social distancing from relatives and investing additional time with pets. But when it eventually comes time for people to return to work, pets may be ill-equipped to handle the long days at home alone.
This transition period may create separation anxiety, which experts we spoke with say is as real for cats and dogs as it is for humans. Experts define separation anxiety as a pet’s distress caused by the absence of the owner. Owners of well-behaved pets may think their animals won’t have any problems adjusting, but that may not necessarily be the case. {Click HERE to read more}

Let it be said that when their country needed them the most, the nation’s army of sewers answered the call.
Indeed, stitchers’ collective output of tens of thousands of cloth masks during the coronavirus outbreak has been nothing short of astounding, filling a gaping need for protective coverings and in the process creating a run on elastic rivaled only by the mad rush for toilet paper.
The massive mobilization has been all the more remarkable considering that a few months ago, who would’ve even guessed so many people were still firing up their Singers?
