Hello Firstname

Wednesday, 17 February
There is a change to the talk originally scheduled for Wednesday 17 February; as previously mentioned, Linda Bembridge is not able to come to us on that date, instead we have a visit by Nick Jenkins AWPF ARPS who has agreed, at short notice, to step into the breach with his talk 'Miles and Miles of Fresh Air'
Nick, from South Wales, is a well known landscape photographer and runs photographic workshops on the subject. Visit Nick's website, http://www.freespiritimages.com, for a taster of his work.

Short Newsletter
Because I've been otherwise occupied with the Salon this week, I've only really had time to put together a bare bones edition of the newsletter, normal service should be resumed next week.

Salon Judging
We finally get to the judging of this year's Bristol Salon this weekend (12 - 14 February). This year we have the luxury of space which will allow us to judge two sections at the same time, the Nature and Travel sections will be judged upstairs whilst the Open and Monochrome are being judged in the main meeting room. Members are welcome to come along to see the action as some 10,000+ images pass before the judges over the three days. The programme will run as follows:
  • Open Section - Friday & Saturday (am)
  • Monochrome Section - Saturday (pm) and Sunday
  • Nature Section - Saturday
  • Travel Section - Sunday
Members who have come along in the past will recall that we used to go for lunch at a local hostelry, sadly there isn't a decent pub for miles so we will be providing lunch for the judges and workers in the clubrooms, however visiting members might like to bring "packed lunch" if they will be staying over the lunch time.

WCPF Members' Exhibition
Members of camera clubs affiliated to the WCPF can now submit entries for this year’s exhibition. Entry is online via the WCPF website.
The Exhibition entry system will be open until 5th March 2016. There are the same 3 print classes (Mono, Colour & Nature) and 4 PDI classes (Open, Creative, Nature & Travel) as last year. The exhibition has PAGB Patronage (17-2016) and PAGB Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals plus Selectors Ribbons will be awarded in each class. New ‘Best Wildlife’ awards will be given in the Nature classes and the Margaret Aven Trophy for the entrant with the most acceptances will be presented for the first time. Full details of the class requirements can be found on the entry system website.
The Exhibition is one the highlights of the WCPF Year, where 100 + of the best print images, and a showing of all accepted images are on display to the public for two weeks in May. They are once again returning to Buckfast Abbey where the last 3 Exhibitions were shown and positively commented on by many visitors.
Please support the federation by entering and helping to ensure the exhibition is a success and that it maintains the high standards we have seen in previous years.
For full entry details, please go to the WCPF website where you will be able submit your PDI entries & digital versions of your prints, your actual print entries can go via Danny Heaton when he goes to the WCPF Council Meeting on 5 March.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Last week I mentioned a picture by Peter Brisley that was reproduced in the Daily Telegraph, the caption said he was an entrant in a National Geographic Photo competition. An update is that Peter has actually been shortlisted in the portfolio section; his other half, Sue O'Connell, is also shortlisted in the single image category - People section. The results are due to be announced at the Daily Telegraph Outdoor Travel Show this weekend - fingers crossed! Its been a good period for Sue as she also gained an HC in the recent Grand Photo Salon (Ukraine). Well done to both.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
