Wednesday 9 July
It's that time of the year again - summer outing time! Next Wednesday we decamp to Ashton Court Estate for an evening wandering around the mansion and grounds. Below are a few links to possibly give you inspiration for the evening:
It is suggested that we meet in the Mansion Carpark at 7pm, where parking charges are:
  • £1 for up to 1 hour
  • £2 for up to 2 hours
  • £3 for up to 5 hours
PAYMENT OPTIONS:
  • RingGo app
  • Credit or debit card by phone call
  • Cash at pay machine
To download a map of the estate, which shows the complete grounds and also the location of the Mansion House Carpark - click here.

Steve Field has kindly agreed to act as meeter & greeter for the evening.

ZOOM
It should come as no surprise to you that there will be no Zoom meeting next week. However, as it's in the great outdoors, it should be safe for some of you Zoomers to come along without fear of impending death!

DI Group - Practical
The next meeting is on Monday 14 July - This is NOT a Zoom meeting

The DIG group are joining hands with the Studio group, widening access to:
  • those that work during the day,
  • others that have little or no experience in using the studio gear,
  • anyone that wants to experience what it’s like to be on the other side of the camera and,
  • if you’re competitive, the opportunity to represent BPS in the Kingswood Salver!
We are planning to revisit the rain theme from a recent studio session with a view to using this as a possible subject for this year’s Kingswood Salver.

Please bring coats, hats, umbrellas etc, wear plain dark tops or go big and bold with colours (bring both?), for this simulated rain session. Don’t worry you won’t get wet…

…...what more could you wish for on a summer evening!

Rachel Domleo & Mike Martin.

Beyond The Wall Group
The Sealed Knot society will be staging a re-enactment at Hartlebury Castle on the weekend of  26/27July https://www.thesealedknot.org.uk/event/hartlebury-castle-2/

This is a large scale (200 people) re-enactment of the English Civil War and promises to be a fabulous chance to capture some great photography. While we have no exclusive access, it is a chance to car share and enjoy a great day out.

If you are interested in being part of a group, probably going on the Sunday, then contact me by email mike.hall95@btinternet.com or by phone 07765 819640.

I am also exploring a visit to the Helicopter Museum at Weston-Super-Mare to do a model shoot using their collection of helicopters from all genres. For further info and to express interest contact me as above.

Distinctions Advisory Group
Monday 21 July - 7.30pm at the Clubrooms.

Andrew Marker, Ralph Snook and Pete McCloskey will be present to offer advice and review possible submissions for RPS and PAGB panels. ALL members who are either already on the path to distinctions or thinking about having a go are welcome, so come along with your images (prints or DPIs) to receive advice.

For the Licentiate the RPS only accept DPI submissions and no longer prints. Our advice was largely based on print submissions, but with the RPS changed rules we will offer advice on DPIs.

Historically LRPS PDI submissions were assessed sequentially but now have to be submitted using a presentation template as outlined on the RPS Website. https://rps.org/qualifications/licentiate/lrps-presentation-layouts/

It is recommended that members read up on Distinctions on the RPS and PAGB websites as they contain much useful information:

PAGB Distinctions
Awards for Photographic Merit Online Advisory Workshop

Would you like to participate in an Online Workshop with your PDI and Prints being assessed and discussed by a group of PAGB Adjudicators? The PAGB has pencilled in a date in September which would require interested parties to upload their images to the Central Management System (CMS) and post prints to us in early August.

There will be quite a lot to manage and we would really appreciate an early expression of interest to determine if the idea is worthwhile. If you would like us to look at your work, please provide your name, e-mail and answers to the following questions. Please e-mail to awards@thepagb.org.uk by early July, if possible, so that we can review the viability of running such a workshop.
  1. What level are you interested in? (BPAGB CPAGB DPAGB EPAGB or MPAGB).
  2. Do you hope to apply for Adjudication in 2025 or 2026?
  3. If you are intending to apply soon, do you want a full potential entry reviewed. Or do you want to submit just a few images to determine which level you might be at?
  4. Will you wish to be advised on a potential PDI or a Print entry?
  5. Are you prepared to pay £10 to be advised or £5 to observe?

Now is the time to get your entry in for Round 3 of the APOY competition, the subject this round is Close-ups & Details. The closing date is 21 July, where the free entry code is APOY55779673

It's got to be worth having a go at this competition, at present BPS are lying joint 4th in the club league and our own Rachel Domleo is lying a very creditable 8th on the overall leader board and had the highest score for any camera club entrant in the Black & White round - so come on, have a go, especially as its FREE!

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Well done to Ramesh Chauhan who is one of our "distance" members (he lives in Ottawa, Canada) has recently achieved the level of EFIAP. For the uninformed this is awarded to those gaining 250 acceptances in 30 different FIAP recognised salons in 20 different countries.

Well done to Mary Pears on receiving a PAGB Ribbon in the recent PAGB Inter-Federation Competition (Nature Prints) for her picture of Sparring Hares, which represented the WCPF.

Salon acceptances: Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Marketplace
If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include them in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).

IMPORTANT: Personal Detail Changes
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk.

The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, please remember, if you don't tell us we can't possibly know!
