Luke 24:1-2 But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb ...

THE EASTER WORD

They probably talked about that morning for the rest of their lives! As you know, the women did not need to go to the tomb at dawn. They had prepared the spices already on Friday afternoon before sundown. When the Sabbath was over they likely decided that it was too dark to go into a tomb, so they waited some twelve hours until the day dawned, until the sky was starting to get gray. But they didn't need to go right then. After waiting that long, they could have waited another hour. They could have waited with their worshipful activity until 9:00 or 10:30. No doubt, however, they could think of nothing better to do at dawn because of their great love for Jesus. That love was something they did need in order to start their journey just before dawn, while it was still dark.

Something they did not need to worry about was the stone, which had been rolled in front of the tomb, because when they arrived they found that it had been rolled away from the tomb. There was no need to keep wild animals out anymore. There was no body for them to bother.

So while the women had a wide range of options as to when they might go to the tomb, while they would not need their spices, no matter when they went, while they did not need to move the stone, or even worry about it, the one thing they did need was to hear the Word of their Savior, which they were to receive!
