Next week is a "double header", with the session before the tea-break being taken up with a presentation by one of our newer members and the session after tea seeing the return of an old fixture at BPS, the Ladies vs Gents Battle.
PART 1 |
 |
|
Our evening opens with a presentation by Gari Jenkins who joined BPS at the beginning of this year. Gari's presentation is called Street Photography - My Journey.
Gari will be talking to us about Street Photography - a genre of photography that captures candid, everyday life in public places. With little or no planning, chance encounters and random subject matter, it can be quite challenging and very unpredictable. He hopes to take you on his journey with all its frustrations, confrontations, lessons........ and the occasional flashes of adequacy that keep him going. Hopefully you will find it interesting.

PART 2
Next week sees the return of the Ladies vs Gents Battle, and despite me advertising the event in previous issues as a friendly, light-hearted Open projected image competition, I suspect it will be anything but light-hearted, with our judge, John Chamberlin, doing his best to stop the two sides swapping punches as they battle it out tooth and nail to see who takes top honours on the night! The team captains for are Carole Brown for the Ladies and Barry Mead for the Gents - may the best team win (well, by that I mean - may the Gents win! ed)
There is still time for members to enter images, entry closes tomorrow, Friday, 7 Nov at midnight.
Each entrant can enter 2 images, please name the images as follows:

The next meeting of the DI Group is Monday 11 November, when Mike Martin and Steve Field will be hosting a practical evening.
In Rachel’s absence Mike and Steve will be looking at all things colour management and printing.
- The image on your screen not matching the print or projected image – learn why this may be the case and how to fix it.
- Not sure what paper to use – have a look at Mike’s Fotospeed swatches
- Don’t know how to mount an image – see how it is done; what mounts work and which kill your image.
For obvious reasons, this will not be a Zoomed meeting.

PDI Competition - Round 2 - Important Information |
|
PDI Competition Culling
Competitions need to fit into a Wednesday evening, allowing time for the judge to give each entrant sufficient feedback and also allowing enough time for a tea break. Typically, this means about one minute per image but sometimes we have too many images to allow this, so we have to reduce the number. Ideally, we would have about 80 images for PDI competitions, however we frequently have 90 plus images, and the competitions end up being rushed. For Round 2, we have had a total of 104 so in consultation with the judge the entry was culled.
The process for doing this is documented in the competition rules, whereby the second image for each entrant is removed which was applied across all classes. The fact that BPS also includes an open Prescribed competition on the same night seriously complicates things and as a consequence, Prescribed images could not be culled by the system which is of course unfair.
We will now explore how this situation this can be avoided in the future, whilst keeping the process manageable and allowing the greatest opportunity to enter competitions at all levels.
Regards
Rob Stephenson

Bristol PS has enjoyed success in this national competition over the last three years. Three members have entered a total of 20 images – these were safely delivered at the PAGB Inter Club battle in Blackburn last month.
BUT, we can do better...........
There is still time to enter – on-line copies have to be entered by 24 November, and prints received by 1 December. Given Christmas postal volumes it would be prudent to get entries in sooner.
So if you fancy having a go, there will be a box at the front to receive any additional entries handed in on Mondays or Wednesdays up to 19 November.
If you have new work, and have not yet entered – please support Bristol PS.
