Hello Firstname

Wednesday 5 December
Next Wednesday we give a warm welcome to Paul Keene FRPS MPAGB MFIAP EFIAP/d3 from Smethwick PS, with his talk called Diamond Geezer. You may gather from the list of letters after his name that he's not too bad at photography, indeed he is the only photographer in the UK to have gained the EFIAP/d3 distinction.
When I asked Paul for some words for the newsletter, he sent the following:

I don't know if you know but Barry Mead and I have been chasing the new FIAP Diamond qualifications for the last 3 years. When I got mine, Peter Gennard shouted across the bar at Smethwick, "Here's the Diamond Geezer" and I thought, that'll do, I've been called a lot worse. So, I've kept the name for the talk. Shortly afterwards, I showed the pictures I had used for the FIAP Diamond at SPS (FIAP only count award winners) and I explained where and why I thought they had been successful. That only takes about half an hour so in the first half I gave a talk about a trip I had made to China as a result of winning a medal there.  It seemed to go down well at SPS, so I thought I would do it when I come to Bristol.

PAGB - Distinctions For Club Members
Well done to Mary Pears and Jeff Hargreaves who were both awarded the DPAGB distinction at the recent PAGB adjudication.

Bristol Salon 2019
For those of you who aren't too sure what the Bristol Salon is: it is an international photographic exhibition that has been running since the mid-1940s and is the largest exhibition of its type in the UK attracting entries from nearly 70 different countries. Entrants may submit up to 16 images across 4 sections (Open, Monochrome, Photo Travel and Nature) which are put before a panel of selectors who pick the top 20% to 30% or so to be accepted. Entry for BPS members is free as long as we receive your entry before 19 January, after that you will have to pay the full fee. This might seem like a long way off, it's now only two weeks away, so beat the rush and get your entry in now!

To help you with your entry there is a small tutorial that can be downloaded by following this  link
. When entering, be sure to tick the box on the first page of the entry system to say that you are a BPS member and fill in your BPS membership number which you will find at the top of this newsletter; when you get to the payment page at the end, click ALREADY PAID or you'll have the BPS debt collectors at your door!

Here's hoping that we see a rush of entries, but in the meantime if you have any queries, feel free to email me at chairman@bristolsalon.co.uk

Full details can found on the BPS  website

All the best

Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2018, at M Shed. The acclaimed wildlife photography exhibition from the Natural History Museum is back with 100 stunning images. From breathtaking animal portraits and dramatic landscapes, to bizarre species and endangered habitats, this exhibition showcases the most arresting and spectacular images of our natural world.
The competition celebrates biodiversity, promotes conservation and champions ethical photography. Whether young, old, professional or amateur, the photographers featured raise awareness of the beauty and fragility of the world around us.
For further details, please visit the M Shed website.

ITS NOT PARTICULARLY EASY FINDING "DATES FOR YOUR DIARY", SO I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF MEMBERS COULD LET ME KNOW OF ANY EVENTS, EXHIBITIONS OR PICTURE LOCATIONS THAT THEY THINK WOULD BE OF INTEREST. DATES AND WEB LINKS WOULD HELP.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Items For Sale
Please note, we can only carry adverts for items to sell if those items actually belong to the member advertising them.

If you have something photographic that you want to sell, let me have the details and I will circulate them to a captive audience of photographers through the Newsletter - send to the usual address.

Studio Bookings
Would all members please note: before you plan your shoot and book your model, you should check whether the studio/clubroom will be free. This can be done easily and at any time by viewing the Clubroom Bookings calendar in the Members' Area of the BPS Website. Bookings can (and must) be made by contacting Mike Bigger at bookings@bristolphoto.org.uk.
Log in details to the Members' Area are at the end of this newsletter.

Photographic Acronyms
For those of you who aren't sure what MPAGB, EFIAP/s and many more such seemingly random collections of letters mean, just click here to download the list.

Personal Detail Changes
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk
The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, if they are wrong, please let Carol know.
