1 John 1:7 The blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS

I once heard the Gospel described in the following way: "There is nothing that you can do to make God love you more and there is nothing that you can do to make God love you less." This is the truth of the Gospel and the reason that Christ came and died. In order that we, no matter what we have done, might be washed of our sins and cleansed by His blood.

Even if you wanted to, there is nothing that you can do to earn this forgiveness. If you come to God and say, "Lord I will make up for my sins, I'll pay you back. I'll do something to make it right."

The Lord says, "Don't bother. You can't. And it doesn't matter, you are forgiven. Those sins don't even exist anymore."

Why? Because Christ already paid for them by dying in our place. Because God loved you enough to send His one and only Son. He does ask us to go out and sin no more, but not because this will make Him love us more than He already does, but simply because now that we are clean why would we want to roll around in the mud anymore?

I believe in the forgiveness of sins. That is, I know Christ has forgiven all my sins.
