Darby Sanders, Communications Guru |
We are lucky to have Darby Sanders as our new, part-time Communications Guru. Darby interned with Portland Story Theater for three months last year, and we are so delighted that Oregon Community Foundation gave us a grant which allows us to hire her as an employee. Featured in the Portland Business Journal's People on The Move, we feel grateful to have such a wonderful person on our team. Welcome, Darby!
In addition to our very popuplar Art of Personal Narrative workshop, we also want to offer something new, something short and sweet. We're offering a 90-minute Storytelling Starter and our first one is in partnership with with TEDxMtHood as an Adventure in Storytelling. This action-packed workshop is designed to help you clarify and articulate your story ideas and gain more confidence to put these into practice. Take advantage of the $15 early-bird pricing. The workshop takes place Wednesday, September 9th, 7pm over at the Alberta Abbey. Come play and build your storytelling skills with the TEDx community!
If you'd like to explore storytelling further but are not ready to commit to doing a performance, maybe our one-day Storytelling Bootcamp is for you!. No pressure to perform. Everyone welcome, no experience necessary. Includes individual time with the instructors. First one offered on Saturday, November 21st. Visit our website for details.

Our first full season at the Alberta Abbey has been a huge success, our audience has grown by leaps and bounds, and the really hot news is we've been awarded three grants this season, from the Miller Foundation, the Oregon Community Foundation, and the Meyer Memorial Trust. Announcing Portland Story Theater's 2015-16 Season!
|
We've got a few changes in store for you -- more Mainstage shows than ever before, and -- drumroll, please --- live music from our new house band!
Mainstage We kick off the season with Founders, Friends and Faves -- an evening with Lawrence, Lynne and Penny, along with a few of the storytellers they think are really great. In October it's Spellbound, our Halloween show, returning after a few years off and ready to scare you silly. In February it's Kiss and Tell, the best Valentine's show in town, with with chocolate, wine, and stories of romance -- the good, the bad, and the scandalous. Two performances! Hosted by Eric Stern, accordion virtuoso and emcee extraordinaire. Finally, in March, you wont want to miss our St. Paddy's celebration, The Luck of the Irish, with stoies and music and song and dance, and a bit of the blarney for good measure. Hosted by Brian O'Hairt, Portland's treasure trove of all things Irish.
Armchair Adventurer The Armchair Adventurer goes back to its roots with Shackleton, the story that started it all. This year, for the first time ever, we'll include the story of the Ross Sea Party -- those valiant men on the other side of Antarctica who gave everyhing they had to lay down the caches of food and fuel along the route -- caches that, as it turned out, Shackleton never used. Join us for Shackleton, The Untold Story. Two performances in January, 2016. This show will once again be part of the city-wide Fertile Ground theater festival, so when you buy your Fertile Ground festival pass, please remember to designate that you want the proceeds to go to Portland Story Theater.
Urban Tellers The Urban Tellers series continues, with stories that are sometimes funny, often surprising, and always authentic. Crafted in our Art of Personal Narrative workshop, these are stories about defining moments, great adventures, big mistakes and profound revelations. Stories that go beyond mere entertainment. Stories that matter. Second Saturdays in November and December 2015 and April, May and June, 2016. Modern storytelling for a modern world.
Live Music! We are thrilled to announce that Portland Story Theater will have live pre-show music at our first show of season, featuring our very own house band: four incredibly talented musicians playing jazzy, improvisational music on keyboard, guitar, drums and stand-up bass. These guys will knock your socks off! Come early, when the doors open at 7:00, and enjoy the music before the stories.
