Psalm 3:2-3 Many are saying of me, "God will not deliver him." But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head.
GOD WILL DELIVER
If you think you've been in tough spots, imagine how King David must have felt when his own son Absalom plotted to kill him. Hushai had given this advice to Absalom, "Let all Israel, from Dan to Beersheba -- as numerous as the sand on the seashore -- be gathered to you, with you yourself leading them into battle. Then we will attack him wherever he may be found, and we will fall on him as dew settles on the ground. Neither he nor any of his men will be left alive" (2 Sam 17:11-12). David was indeed a marked man.
There were those who spoke ill of David and his God during this time. They said things like, "He's going to die. His God is too weak to do anything for him." They didn't think the LORD could or would deliver David from the hands of his enemies. Thankfully, David knew better. He who in his youth once trusted that the mighty Goliath could be slain, trusted yet again that the LORD would deliver him according to His will.
Days come when we feel surrounded by enemies. Days come when we hear the shouts of others (and of our own flesh) saying, "God won't help you. You might as well give up." Remember in those moments that you too can say with King David, "But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head."
