On Saturday, May 8th, Los Manatees drummer Tim Campbell and his girlfriend Amber were both injured in a car accident on the way to our debut show at The Wagon Wheel in Quakertown, PA. Uncle Ronkle drove the two of them to Grandview Hospital while the rest of us played the show with a drummer named Allen (last name unknown) that Karl Frick found listed in his gig book.
Tim and Amber's injuries were not too serious (thank God) and Allen played a good show (Praise Jah). So good in fact, that club owner "Big Daddy" Eric booked us right through to the end of the year(!)
As some of you might have noticed, our web-site was hacked into earlier last month and was down for a few hours. Our web-master Michael Jones was working on the site at the time (3:00 AM) and reported the intrusion to the cyber-crime division of the F.B.I. He learned that many sites using the same server as us were hacked into as well. Michael then did a little investigating on his own and he discoverd the identity of the hackers all by himself! Michael then dutifully reports the identity to the proper authorities who then shut the hackers down. Well done Michael! You're quicker than the F.B.I.! And the moral of the story is: "Don't mess with Los Manatees..."
And speaking of Michael Jones, our mighty web-master recently installed our much-anticipated Radio Free Manatees! The programs are in four and a half hour blocks. They mix our live material with studio cuts and insert occasional station IDs. The sound quality is quite good. And its all down-loadable. For free! Music for the people! All you have to do to access this music is to go to our site www.losmanatees.com and hit "Los Radio". Presto! Once again, thank you Michael Jones.
A few weeks ago we received a postcard from a Manatee fan in Abu Dhabi, in the Sultanate of Oman. It was sent by long-time friend and fellow Canadian, Diana McGhee. She teaches English and was on her way from Oman to the U.A.E. (United Arab Emirates) listening to her Manatees cassette tape and just had to let us know. Los Manatees penetrates the Middle East!
Thanks to all of you who came out to see our debut at The Lord Salford Pub in Harleysville, PA a couple of weeks ago. The club liked our show and booked us right through to the end of the year(!)
During the last month a lot of the coolest local musicians sat in with us at various gigs and we'd just like to take this oppurtunity to thank Bebop Tom Brunner (sax), Bud Burroughs (mandolin), Scott "Big Man" Gourley (vocals), John Fischer (banjo), DJ Donavan (rap) & Matt (guitar), Uncle Roncle (bass guitar), Michael Mann (guitar/vocals), Ted The Fiddler, and Jesse Wagner (no relation to Randy) (guitar/vocals). Jesse is from the band The Happy Dog and they are playing The Bell House on Jesse's birthday (Thurs.,June 10th). Note: Los Manatees is not playing anywhere that night.
Coming up this weekend it's the "3-Fs": Finn McCool's (Fri.), The Funhouse (Sat.), & our spring debut at The Fitzwater Station(Sun.).
