Hello, Firstname

Wednesday 22 June

The upcoming rail strike has forced our scheduled speaker for next Wednesday to postpone her talk until February of next year. However, our Programme Secretary, Steve Field, has stepped into the breach at the last moment and will be presenting a talk entitled Cruising Norway’s Back (Inside) Passage. Here's what Steve says of his talk:
In January 2017 I had an offer of a cruise from Southampton to the North of Norway calling in at a number of ports. Too good to miss. The route took us via the “Back” or Inside Passage between the mainland and the hundreds of islands to the West up to and inside the Arctic Circle.

Being January I was prepared for “Arctic” conditions and the possibility of seeing the Aurora Borealis but, nothing is ever a certainty.

This talk records the journey, warts and all, and hopefully gives the viewer a taste of the Norwegian “experience”.

Creative Competition
Next Wednesday is the closing date for the Annual Creative Competition when the Bob Faris Trophy will be presented. This competition is open to all members and is for up to 3 images which can be either prints or projected images. Prints will require the photographer's BPS Membership number and print title on the back, no other information should be visible.

The judge will be previous winner and club member, Rachel Domleo.

Below is an extract from the BPS Competition Rules:

For this competition, a submitted image must have originated as a photographic image or images, produced either in camera or by post processing. All images must be original and may not incorporate elements produced by anyone else. Artwork or computer graphics generated by the entrant may be incorporated so long as the original photographic content predominates. Digital skills should be seen as the tools to compose photographic images into one new single image. The final composition will show the photographer’s artistic interpretation.
  1. This is an Open competition, with no levels of entry.
  2. Images may have been entered into any previous club competition and may be entered into any subsequent bi-monthly or annual competition, other than this one.
  3. The Trophy winner will not be eligible to enter the next two Creative Competitions.
  4. Each entrant may submit up to three images. These may be all PDI, all Print or any combination of the two.
  5. The judge will select a Best PDI, a Best Print and award the trophy to one of these two.

Annual Print Competition
The results of last Wednesday's Annual Print Competition will be published in next week's newsletter.

PAGB Interclub PDI Competition at Warwick
Saturday 16 July - PAGB Inter-Club PDI Championship at Warwick University

The above competition is one of the most keenly fought events in the calendar.
The TOP TWO clubs from each regional federation competition win the right to represent themselves, their members and their region in this annual national battle.

In the 2021 national competition we competed against 50+ other clubs from across GB, eventually finishing 8th, with our own Sue O’Connell receiving a Silver Medal!

That final position, ie 8th, guaranteed us qualification at this year’s championship, but not being complacent we underlined our right to be there with our win in DPIC at the beginning of this year.

Tickets for this year’s battle are available now via the PAGB website – costing £12:50.

Come and join us in the audience and lend us your support. We’ve earned our place, let’s see if we can better last year’s outcome.

Irrespective of where we finish, it will be a great day filled with the very best images from the very best photographers in the country.

Trumpet Bowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue
