February is Discover Languages Month

Here is How You Can Educate, Advocate and Celebrate Discover Languages Month:

Can you help us promote world language study?

We are looking for people to interview.

Hello!
My students and I are looking for interesting people to interview and news "tidbits" to share for our second annual webcast in honor of Discover Languages Month in February. If you or someone you know has a compelling story about the importance, impact, personal influence of multilingualism, etc., have them contact me ASAP! We would like a variety of societal sectors represented: elected officials, businesspeople, authors and researchers, those who work with humanitarian and community orgs, individuals touched/impacted by their own bilingualism, etc. Those selected to participate will be interviewed by the student hosts of the program. In fact, the entire show is student-run! We can have interviews in person from our make-shift studio (my classroom) or we can interview via Skype. This allows you or others to participate regardless of the distance between us!

And here's the best news: in order to generate more publicity for the webcast and more viewers hearing the message about the benefits of multilingualism, we are officially attempting to break a Guinness World Record for longest "marathon" broadcast. We successfully did a live, streaming webcast for 24 consecutive hours last year. Since the current record is 33 hours, we will webstream our Discover Languages content, interviews, entertainment and games for 34 consecutive hours. But we really need your help to make this happen. Keep reading for more ways to help.

We are also looking for "news" related to language and language learning. We're looking for compelling reasons to study language, become multilingual and/or maintain or build one's heritage-language proficiency while learning English. This could be about large companies that have added language-proficient staff due to business needs; new research about benefits of multilingualism; movie stars (etc.) who are purposefully ensuring their children are blilingual; statements about importance of language made by "powerful", "influential" or famous people, etc.  To have news ideas considered for inclusion, send the ideas to nnaditz@sanjuan.edu.

The Webcast will air live from 8:00 a.m. Pacific time Feb. 22 to 6:00 p.m.. Pacific Time Feb. 23 on Ustream.
Spread the word to your contacts! The whole point is to get beyond the education sector.

Merci !
