John 1:37-39 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, "What do you want?" They said, "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), "where are you staying?" "Come," he replied, "and you will see." So they went and saw where he was staying, and spent that day with him.
EPIPHANY POWER
The words above record what happened the day after John the Baptizer pointed to Jesus as the Lamb of God. As John was conducting his ministry out at the Jordan, Jesus came out the river again. When he saw Jesus walking towards him, he repeated the words: "Look! This is the Lamb of God," whereupon two of his disciples (Andrew and John son of Zebedee) were persuaded to leave the Baptizer and follow Jesus. When Jesus noticed Andrew and John following Him, He invited the two to come to the place He was staying and to spend the day learning His Word. We see how the preaching of the Gospel had a very powerful effect. It persuaded people to go after the Savior and filled them with the desire to learn more about Him.
Still today the Gospel fills us with the desire to follow Jesus and learn His Word. And He is very happy to provide us with His heavenly instruction. Through the Scripture readings and sermon we hear each Sunday at His house. Through the devotions we conduct at home in the family circle. Through memorized hymn stanzas we meditate over as we go through our day. Through personal Bible reading and group Bible study with our fellow Christians ... Jesus leads us to a deeper appreciation of His Savior-love and strengthens us for a life of Christian service to His glory and our great joy, just as He did for Andrew and John long ago.
