JoAnn Howell Bailey
April 19, 1937 ~ October 6, 2016
JoAnn Howell Bailey passed away on October 6, 2016. She was born in Preston, Idaho on April 19, 1937 to Otis Bird and Hazel Marguerite Anderson Howell. JoAnn grew up in Ogden, and graduated from Ogden High School.
She went from being a young city girl, to marrying a cowboy and becoming a rancher’s wife. She learned to cook on a wood stove, and feed hungry ranch hands. She spent her days raising bum lambs, ponies, and kids. She was the president of the town council in Booth Valley, and was instrumental in getting phone service to Promontory Utah.
JoAnn retired after working 30 years for IRS. She was very loved and respected by her co-workers, and made many lifelong friends. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and recently enjoyed giving tours of the historic Aldous cabin in Huntsville.
JoAnn is survived by her husband of 55 years, James L Bailey. Her children, Wendy (Mark) Parker, James H (Priscilla) Bailey, and Shannon (Aaron) Reid. Grandchildren, Kristen, Kyle, Kelsea, Morgan, and Jacob, plus 3 ½ great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, and baby sister Sharon. Funeral services will be held at the Huntsville 1st Ward, 7390 East 200 South, on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 11 a.m.. A visitation will be held prior to the services from 9:00 to 10:30 am. Interment, Huntsville City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity close to your heart.
