Matthew 2:13-15 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him." When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt, and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, "Out of Egypt I called My Son."

OUT OF EGYPT -- OUT OF THIS WORLD

Jesus being called out of Egypt is a reminder to us that in like manner God has called us out of Egypt, out of this world. Make no mistake, the world would make it seem to us as though its accomplishments are so grand, towering high above the earth! Great monuments dedicated to the great leaders of the earth, whose grand tombs stand for the ages as a testimony to the greatness and power of those who lie within them.

The writings upon the walls are held out to be words of great wisdom, yet do not understand that time and those who have followed have erased the words of those who preceded them, which ought to serve as a reminder to us that the treasure and greatness of the things of the earth is passing away. Moth and rust decay them. Time and "new thoughts" erase them. The ideas and philosophies, the power of nations and armies, the wealth and riches are but empty and useless things, best to buried and left in the tombs.

Out of Egypt has God called us by the Gospel of His Son Jesus Christ. Though we are in the world we are not of it. Our trust, our hope, our confidence is not placed in the valley of dead kings, nor the towering monuments of yesterday, but in the living God, even our Lord Jesus Christ.
