Hebrews 9:12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption.

BLOOD THAT REDEEMS

There are many other illustrations God uses in the Old Testament to teach us about the precious blood our Messiah poured out for us in love on the hill of Calvary. There was the blood of the perfect specimen of a one-year-old male lamb which the Israelites were instructed to paint on the doorframes of their homes so that the death-angel God sent to smite the Egyptians might pass over them and do no harm to their family. There was the blood of oxen and sheep God commanded them to offer as sacrifices every day at the Tabernacle and (layer) the Temple. There was the goat-blood He required Aaron the high priest to carry with him behind the curtain into the Most Holy Place, sprinkle on the mercy seat of the Ark of Covenant on the Day of Atonement.

All these were graphic pictures of the one-time, all-sufficient, perfect sacrifice God's Son would offer on the cross, by which He would clothe us in His holiness, through faith in His blood.

My soul looks back to see the burden You did bear
When hanging on the cursed tree-- I know my guilt was there!

Believing, we rejoice to see the curse remove;
We bless the Lamb with cheerful voice and sing His bleeding love.
(The Lutheran Hymnal, 156:4-5)
