Photography Course
Millie Spavin  & Neil McCoubrey would like to thank everyone who helped make this year's BPS Photography Course a real success.

They are: Colin Hajee, Danny Heaton, Derek Ripper, Jon Leavins, Keith Wood, Jeff Hargreaves, Peter Howell, Pete McClosky, Peter Smith, Mark Stinchcombe, Steve Taylor and Harold Hurford.

Millie and her team taught 40 students, across 11 tutorial evenings and 3 field trips and, in the process, raised £6000 for BPS. That is a £57 subsidy for each and every BPS member. So we all owe them a big "thank you".

If anyone else would like to participate in making next year's course an equal success then please talk to Millie.

A Grateful Speaker
A couple of weeks ago we had a visit from Colin Trow-Poole who gave us an extremely entertaining talk called People & Places. Following Mike Bews' courtesy letter to thank Colin for a wonderful evening, he received the following from Colin which he thought should be shared by all who were at that evening:

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the feedback, I really enjoyed the evening and it was great to give a talk to such an enthusiastic and interactive audience.

I give quite a few talks these days and I have to say that they vary considerably.

As for Bristol PS, from the moment I stepped through the door on Wednesday I was made to feel extremely welcome (as was my wife Linda) and I knew from the outset that I was amongst friends. It was great to see such interest in my work and so refreshing to visit a club that truly values the monochrome print.  The banter was also good and this added to the enjoyment on the night.

I would be grateful if you would extend my best wishes to the members as they are a sterling example of what a photographic society should be.

Best wishes,

Colin

Plea From The RPS!
Closure of the RPS Western Region Members' Annual Print Exhibition?

The closure of this exhibition is imminent as the number of entrants has been dropping over the past five years (from 120 to 50 out of 750 potential members this year).

At least four members need to confirm that they are prepared to spend the time and effort required to mount the exhibition (including collecting and preparing prints, organising display space, judges, marshalling, hanging and dismounting the exhibitions and returning prints to members).

Furthermore, at least 80 members need to commit to submitting two prints each to the 2014 exhibition.

If you think you can help or want more information, please contact Tony Cooper as soon as possible or by 7 December at the latest  (tony@photoscoop.co.uk).

WCPF Newsletter
Ann Owen, the editor of the WCPF Newsletter is looking for pictures to adorn the Newsletter cover and wondered if anyone from BPS would like to submit a suitable image. Ann has stressed that she would like the pictures to come from what she refers to as the "lesser known members" of the Society and not the better known photographers among the membership.
If you think you have an image that would be suitable, can you please email it direct to Ann at newslettereditorwcpf@gmail.com

Exhibition to Visit
Hanham Photographic Society - Annual Exhibition.
Hanham PS are holding their Annual Exhibition on Saturday, 30 November in Hanham Methodist Church, Chapel Road, Hanham, Bristol, BS15 8SD from 10.00 a.m. - 3.30 p.m.   BPS members will be more than welcome to attend.

Photoshop CC
Nick Ayers has dropped me a line to mention that Adobe are offering, for a limited time only, an edition of the new Photoshop CC for photographers, for the princely sum of £8.78 per month which is drastically below the figures that were bandied about when CC was first introduced. The following is what Adobe have to say:

Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 for £8.78/month
Introducing a special Creative Cloud plan for photography enthusiasts to pros. Get the latest version of Photoshop CC and Lightroom, 20GB of cloud storage, and a Behance ProSite for just £8.78/month. Offer valid until December 2.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
John Hudson recently entered eight shots to the Wrekin International (his first outside the club and Bristol Salon). He gained five acceptances and a FIAP gold medal for his image of a bat that we saw recently at the club - John is understandably "Over the moon!!"

If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Items For Sale
If you have something photographic that you want to sell, why not let me have details and I can circulate them to a captive audience of photographers through the Newsletter - send to the usual address.

If you have anything you think other members would like to know about, such as exhibitions, special events etc. please let me know at newsletter@bristolphoto.org.uk
