Newsletter - Summer 2016 |
Dear Friends,
Last
week I was delivering paintings up in Scotland. Husband Mike came with
me and we stayed in Auchterarder with my aunt and uncle. We had a wonderful time catching up with family. And
what was even more wonderful was that my Aunt
Ailie gave me my mum's
1953 diary - a tiny little volume covering my
mum's 19th year during
which she was teacher training, meeting and
falling in love with my dad. I had no idea it even existed. Mum died in 1989 and dad in 1994, so this diary was both fascinating and moving for me. |

|
Mum (Isobel) recounts historical events - seeing A TELEVISION, climbing Dumyat on the Coronation of Elizabeth II and enjoying all the bonfires below. She
goes out evening walks with my dad around Dunblane and often goes to
the 'pictures'.

|
Mum and Dad are the reason I paint today - they were musical, artistic, entertaining and lovely folks, sadly dying far too young. The diary is now in my studio - food for thought for new paintings, new ideas ....
In the meantime, thank you for coming along to exhibitions - for supporting my work and for following. I've been so busy this summer so more news below ...a BIG newsletter this summer.
Yours aye,
Lesley

MORE NEWS ART LIFE - MAY/JUNE
It was a busy, sociable and hugely creative painting time on my 'Grand Tour' -
taking in Sussex, the New Forest, Devon and finally Cape Cornwall where
I met up with my two old artist mates - Clare Maria Wood and Karen Stamper. We call ourselves The Cambridge 3, simply because we met in Cambridge over a decade ago.
On our residency, we stayed in a beautiful studio cottage called Brisons Veor perched on a cliff overlooking the sea.

By day three I was outside painting from the cottage looking down on Priest's Cove, inspired by soft breezes, sea, rocks and sky.

Whilst in Sussex I had the opportunity to visit King & McGaw Printers in Newhaven. This company produce high quality prints of art by greats such as Howard Hodgkin. I was granted a grand tour of the depot. Fascinating to see prints, frames being made and to to see the process ... They were in the throes of working towards the Georgia O'Keefe Exhibition for Tate Modern.
