Hello, Firstname

Apologies

Apologies, but content in this week’s newsletter is particularly sparse. The closing date for the Salon is this weekend which means one heck of a lot of work and I have had to prioritise - sadly the Newsletter lost out. Competition results and plenty of other news will be printed next week.

DI Group

I am still thinking about hands on workshops which I first mentioned in the BPS Newsletter of 3rd January (Issue 365) which you may like to refer to for the details again.  I have had one email in response and a couple of members expressing interest in the clubroom. I would like hear from anyone who may be interested and what you would like to learn from these workshops.

Please contact me at dig@bristolphoto.org.uk .

Beyond The Wall - Street Photgraphy
Damien Demolder will be giving a presentation at our club night on Wednesday 26 Feb and will be doing a "Street Photography" workshop on Thursday 27 Feb. This is a practical hands-on day of learning how to improve your street photography through seeing in new ways.
Damien will demonstrate a range of principles around using light, finding backgrounds and working in public areas, and then will help the group to find their own way at their own pace. It's a day suitable for all levels of experience, and is certain to change the way you see and shoot - no matter what subjects you are usually interested in.
Cameras and lenses will be provided, by Panasonic so you only need to bring your imagination and memory cards.
Cost will be £35 per head and numbers are limited to 15 - (I have already had places booked! Steve)
If interested, please reply to Steve Field at btw@bristolphoto.org.uk
Note - This is in addition to the Steve Russell Studios visit the same evening so it promises to be a fun packed day"

Beyond The Wall
A date for your diary: BTW will be hosting a "Practical Exercise in Mounting" (presumably not the carnal variety!) on Tuesday 28 January at 7.30pm. This will be a hands-on evening when all the mysteries surrounding print mounting will be explained and demonstrated. Bring along a small print (max 7" x 5") to play with.

A visit to Steve Russell Studios has been arranged for the evening of 27 Feb 2020 - time to be advised. There is a limit to numbers so a "pecking order" will be set up nearer the time.
Here is his website to get a taster:  www.steverussellstudios.com

Further details of both events closer the date.

Wildlife Photographer of the Year
Wildlife Photographer of the Year – the world-renowned exhibition from the Natural History Museum – is back at M-Shed until 4 May with 100 new images. Now in its 55th year, Wildlife Photographer of the Year presents the most arresting and spectacular photography of our natural world. Encounter the beauty and fragility of wildlife, see fascinating animal behaviour and get to know extraordinary species. You’ll discover the surprising – and often challenging – stories behind the images during a time of environmental crisis.
Wildlife Photographer of the Year is the most prestigious photography event of its kind showcasing the world’s most astonishing sights for more than 50 years. Launching in 1965 and attracting 361 entries, today the competition receives 48,000 entries from 100 countries.
Full details here.

It's worth reading the following from John Hudson:

I, like many, have been to this exhibition every year for I know not how long. I have been jaded to the point of thinking of it as a duty rather than a pleasure - especially in recent years when the "arty"-ness of the print was given more credit than its technical merit or content.

This year is different, back to good standards and some great images. I was pleasantly surprised and urge people to go along.

Entrants will be informed of any purchase requests once the exhibition has closed., and it will then be their responsibility to deliver the print to the purchaser. Trumpet Blower's Corner
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

For Sale
If you have anything to sell, or you're looking for something to buy, just let me know and I'll include it here. Please bear in mind, we only advertise items for BPS members.

Studio Bookings
Would all members please note: before you plan your shoot and book your model, you should check whether the studio/clubroom will be free. This can be done easily and at any time by viewing the Clubroom Bookings calendar in the Members' Area of the BPS Website. Bookings can be made by contacting Mike Bigger at bookings@bristolphoto.org.uk.
Log in details to the Members' Area are at the end of this newsletter.

The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter. If they are wrong, please visit the Members' Area of the BPS website where you can register any changes using the on-line form provided; this form can also be used for change of address, email etc.
