Frenzied yarn-shopping shaped greetings to you

We hope that this newsletter find you well, sharpening your needles and charging your cash card for Ally Pally, and rolling up your freshly knitting sleeves for the eventorama that is National Knitting Week.

We have a whole lotta events to invite you to this week, including Ally Pally’s Champagne Bar, a spectacular on the South Bank, and some pirate purling.

Along with this S&B London are finally on www.ravelry.com, and have fallen madly in love. Join our Stitch and Bitch London group, or get on the wait list before your friends and then laugh evilly when you get your precious invite first.

The last couple of meetings have seen knitted ballerinas, beagles, and gorgeous, self-patterning gloves . We were also referred to as “some kind of knitting farm” by a fascinated passerby at the National Theatre, must be all the mooooohair (sorry).

Stitch and Blue Blanket Spectacularousness

National Knitting Week is here once more. Hurrah! From the 14th, a week of woolly goodness sweeps the nation. Skeins of events are taking place all over, and we couldn’t pass up the chance to get our sticks and string in on the action.

S&B London’s Blue Blanket Square Spectacular takes place on the 16th of October at the Royal Festival Hall. Bring your blue yarn and some needles and help us knit 20cm squares, which will be part of the magnificent SnB Blanket.

For all the details click here, or click here for instructions on how your group can take part.

Stitch and Champers at Ally Pally

Alexandra Palace’s Knitting and Stitching Show is THE knitting event of the year. S&B Londoners wouldn’t miss it for all the yarn in the world, and neither should you. It runs from October 11th to 14th, and the everyone will be there (including our good friend’s at Nichol’s Buttons and Hipknits).

As an added bonus we are also very proud to present the Knit at the Movies Champagne Bar. S&B London and the lovely ladies of Greenwich’s Meantime Knitters have been their handknit socks off to create possibly the most glam knit-themed champagne bar stitchers have ever had the pleasure to sip and stitch in. Turn to your left at the entrance in Ally Pally’s Palm Court and witness what happens when sticks and string go Hollywood.

Sit, knit, sip champers, and bring along potential knitters to learn for free.

Stitch and Yaaaaarrrn Me Hearties!

Ahoy there bilge rats and salty sea dogs! To celebrate the Maritime Museum's latest exhibition 'Sailor Chic', we will be dropping anchor (not stitches) to take part in a huge nautical-style Stitch 'n' Bitch. Think Jean Paul Gautier Breton jumpers, Vivienne Westwood pirate style, and good old Captain Birdseye's chunky roll neck.

Join some of London’s finest groups (Meantime Knitters, I Knit London, and of course us) for a special day of sea-inspired knitting. Whether you be sailor or pirate, be prepared to duel with knitting needles, dodge our yarn cannons, and have at least one of your hands permanently replaced by a crochet hook. There will be fancy dress for those of you scurvy knaves that dare…the rest of ye be landlubbers! And it’s all FREE!

SUNDAY 28TH OCTOBER

Stitch and Shhhhhhhhhhh Secret Santa

Only 79 knitting days till Christmas…we hope you’ve started your Christmas knits by now (or are at least feeling shame for not having done so).

This year the Stitchettes are inviting you to join the S&B London Secret Santa Shenanigans. All you have to do is knit a gift costing around £5, bring it along to the Christmas Party on the 6th of December (put it in your diaries and prepare for a hangover the next day), and prepare to be merry. All those who give a gift will get to fish one out of the Secret Santa Sack of Yarny Wonders.

After the likes of last year’s pirate gloves, Harry Potter hottie cover, woolly bar of choc, and mad-eyed sheep scarf, we can’t wait to see what you come up with this year.

Stitch and a Scarf for Shelter

At our meeting at Inn the Park, Stitchette Candice got to talking to a fellow S&B Londoner (hi Tina) about the gorgeous Origins cosmetics range. Although it seems a long way off of yarn and stitch markers, Origins have got together with the homeless charity Shelter to raise funds by selling their yummy-smelling little bottles of ginger essence, with cute hand-knitted scarves wrapped round them.

For each bottle that Origins sell over Christmas, they will donate £1 to Shelter. So if you want to get creative and make some tiny scarves then check out the Origins website for more details, and help Shelter help the homeless.

That is just about all we can possibly squeeze in for you this week. Wallow in the wonder that is National Knitting Week, knit away your blues at the Spectacular, pirate it up in Greenwich, stitch and sip champers at Ally Pally, go Dutch, and have yourself a hell of a woolly fortnight.

Happy knitting – and race you to the good yarn at Ally Pally!
