Colossians 3:15-17 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
NOW WHAT?
Now what? Has the post-Christmas "letdown" hit you yet? It's been said, "After the message comes the mess." After all the preparation, anticipation, and celebration, it's not surprising that these days after Christmas may seem long and dreary in comparison. Life quickly reverts back to its normal routine. Problems and decisions we may have put off for a few days now need to be handled.
When you feel yourself sliding into "letdown" mode, remember that Christmas joy is not just a one-day blessing. In answer to "Now what?" turn to Paul's words in Colossians 3:15-17. The apostle urges three things. First: "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts." Jesus was born to win perfect peace between sinners and God by dying on the cross for all mankind. That peace means that now all is well between us and God. That's a gift to brighten every day. Let that peace rule over anxiety and fear.
Paul continues: "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly" (Colossians 3:16). We live in this world where we are attacked and battered by sin and all the evil it brings. But that doesn't mean we have to adopt the superficial attitude of society or its priorities. Instead, let the Word of Christ's love and ongoing presence give you a different perspective of life and its purpose.
Finally, Paul adds: "And whatever you do ... do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him" (Colossians 3:17). Whatever we have to do, even on the most ordinary of days, is worth doing when we're living in the light of the Word-Made-Flesh.
May the Lord then transform "letdown" into ongoing Christmas thanksgiving!
