On Wednesday we have a visit by Linda Wevill FRPS EFIAP DPAGB who will be presenting her talk, Mostly Landscapes. Linda is one of a growing band of prolific photographers to emerge from the Plymouth area and is a member of Plymouth Camera Club. You can view a selection of her work by visiting www.lindawevillphotography.com, where you will see the type of things Linda produces; one thing that seems to come across in her work is a certain "gentleness and feeling" for her subjects, so you should be in for a thoroughly enjoyable evening. An example of her work is shown here:

DI Group - Monday 14 July
|
The next meeting of the DI Group is tomorrow, Monday 14 July. As usual all members are welcome and audience participation is encouraged, so if you have any pictures you would like to show, be they projected images (jpegs only please on a memory stick) or prints, they are all welcome.
As usual there will be a chance to nibble Ashwin's chocolate fancies in the break, what better encouragement could ther be to turn up!

Many of you fought through humungous traffic jams last week to get to what was undoubtedly the highlight of the club calendar, the AGM. So that you can retain that excitement, you will find attached to this newsletter, a copy of the minutes of the meeting - please keep it as you'll be asked questions next July!
Following the AGM a short Council meeting was held and the following changes were confirmed:
- Chairman - Millie Spaven
- Deputy Chairman - Jeff Hargreaves
- Secretary - John Hudson

The second half of the AGM evening was taken up by a new competition in the club programme; this was for images taken at Studio Group evenings over the last couple of years. The competition took the form of a "knock out" with the submitted images being projected in pairs and the audience voting for which of the pair was to be kept. This was repeated for all the images with successive rounds containing the successful images from each pair until just three images remained. The audience voted for this final group to determine the best image on the night. The final winner was a superb monochrome portrait by Mike Bigger entitled "Eddie" which is reproduced below:

A number of BPS members travelled to Warwick yesterday (Saturday) to attend the annual PAGB Interclub Projected Image Competition. This event saw two clubs from each photographic region in the UK (plus last year's finalists) compete over several rounds in front of a panel of three top judges. This year 38 clubs battled it out over the morning in an attempt to reach the final eight who would eventually compete for the title of Champions for 2014. Sadly BPS didn't manage to reach the last eight and joined the other thirty clubs in this group to compete for the Don Morrison Plate where we eventually came joint 13th with a score of 95 points. The winning club scored 104 and overall the scoring was pretty tight among all of the clubs. The final winner of the Plate was Cannock Photographic Society from the Midlands Federation. Champions overall was Smethwick Photographic Society, again from the Midlands.
So distraught was one member of the visiting band of BPS members that BPS had not reached the final eight that she took drastic action during the lunch break. Beryl Heaton thought it was just all too much and decided to do what she thought was the honourable thing and end it all by diving off the steps leading from the auditorium. Sadly this didn't quite work and ended in poor Beryl breaking two bones in her arm - I'm sure that other members were just as disappointed at our lack of success but just didn't have Beryl's commitment to the club!
Joking aside, Beryl did take a nasty tumble and did indeed break her arm and we all we wish her a speedy recovery and hope that Danny's nursing skills are up to the mark.
