EXTEND UK DATES WITH DEERHUNTER IN MARCH 2011

Twin-Hand Movement OUT NOW on Gnomonsong

“when variety sounds this good, it's hard to fault a band for sharing so many ideas in one place” pitchfork

"Lower Dens know when to hold back and when to push forward, how to manipulate the dynamics of a rhythm for maximum effect, when empty space is more powerful than noise, and when noise is perfectly placed to suffocate and exploit an open space…… an album that soars without ever needing to deliver anything so obvious or clichéd as a punch line." Drowned in Sound

“Each listen brings me new sounds to fall in love with. " The Line of Best Fit

"one of the best alt-rock albums we've heard all year." Neu Magazine

Having recently supported Beach House in the UK, Baltimore’s LOWER DENS released one of the most beautifully dynamic and not to mention, under-rated albums of last year with debut Twin Hand Movement (Gnomonsong). The band (Jana Hunter – vocals/guitar, Will Adams – guitar, Geoff Graham – bass/vocals and Abram Sanders – drums) will return to the UK supporting DEERHUNTER on their UK tour in March.

Twin-Hand Movement contains eleven perfect songs, rife with the survivalist paranoia one expects from residents of a post-urban port hole (and this particular songwriter), crafted methodically and beautifully, carrying the listener enthusiastically out into the rolling breaks of industrial filth-water.

WATCH : LOWER DENS perform 'BATMAN' a crystalline piece of pop perfection

Swarming guitar fuzz, bass waves, insistent drum throbs and Jana Hunter’s redolent, charred voice are the core components of the band. Hunter, sometimes known for intimate, ghost- heavy weird-fi, now writes and plays with a group that might get filed under new wave, or drone pop, or post-punk. With due deference to her solo work, we’re very glad.

Recorded by Chris Freeland (ex-Oxes drummer; proprietor of Beat Babies, Baltimore), mixed by Chris Coady (at his DNA, NYC), and mastered by Sarah Register (of the Lodge, NYC and the band Talk Normal), Twin Hand Movement is a collection of songs where, from opener “Blue & Silver” (anxiety mounts at a quick clip until the final climactic release) to “Plastic & Powder” (a churning, narcotic slow-burner) and  “Hospice Gates” (penultimate album cut, proud weirdo anthem, possible creative zenith), not one is a space-waster.

Lower Dens formed in early 2009, when Hunter set about finding a full-time band. They spent the rest of the year sweating in attics and basements, and only stepped out of the shadows to do a quick tour and record.
