Winding River Canoe

Upcoming Summer Trips

VIMEO

Join us for a magical evening on the River Dart! The evening paddle by canoe is an opportunity to have an unusual evening where you slow down and experience the natural world on the water as it moves from day to night. The fading light... bird-sound, silence, bats, moonlight, darkness. We set off in the daylight and paddle for an hour or so upstream, gathering firewood on the way. Pitching up on the river bank, some hearty soup around the fire, and a river tale or two from our story-teller. We paddle back as night falls to the sound of the owls, and only our night vision to guide us. No previous canoeing experience required.
DATES: JULY 22, JULY 28, AUG 4, AUG 11, AUG 25  6pm-10pm

BUSHCRAFT-CANOE ADVENTURE
A day or weekend of foraging and learning Bushcraft skills on the river. There will be opportunities at each of our stops to learn some key Bushcraft skills, including how to light a fire without matches, and have a go at some natural crafts and cordage.
On the w/e trip we'll camp overnight at a secret spot by the water's edge – tuck in to some campfire cuisine, experience the magic of a night walk to call owls and spot bats, concluded by stories and a nightcap around the campfire. In the morning we'll enjoy the symphony of nature with a dawn walk and breakfast around the fire. After this we’ll slowly make our way back to civilization feeling revived after our immersion in the natural world.

SHARPHAM CANOE PICNIC
Explore this scenic stretch of the River Dart by canoe, topped off with a gourmet riverside picnic opposite Sharpham Estate, using food and drink sourced from small independent local suppliers. The canoeing is gentle and easy going, but enough to work up a good appetite for the sumptuous riverside picnic that awaits you. After the picnic, we paddle back to Totnes or Stoke Gabriel (depending on tides), finishing off about 3pm.
Suitable for novice canoeists and food lovers! (Adults and older children only.)

RIVER WYE CANOE ADVENTURE
This trip has a real expedition feel to it, and you will come away feeling like you have had an adventure. We begin at Hay-on-Wye, just north of the Black Mountains, where we'll meet and load the canoes with everything we need for our journey on the river. We travel several miles each day through changing scenery; flat stretches interspersed with  small rapids (nothing too scarey!). Camping on river beaches and banks along the way, the pace is relaxed, and there is plenty of time to  swim, play, and rest...
