Stitchin’, Bitching and Fashionista Knittin’

Knitting on the Thames ... Analogue Amnesty Party ... Glamourous Knitting Fashions ... Bargain Yarn (Yes!)

Post-festive greetings to you

We hope this newsletter finds you well and that your New Year’s knitting projects are keeping your fingers active and warm during these dark January days. Now let's fire things up with some knitty news and events.

Just when you thought the winter sales were winding down to a close, our good friend Andy at Prestige Fibres is on hand to offer you gorgeous yarn at prices you won’t be able to resist. Buy now or regret it later!

If you are all shopped out, perhaps it’s time to put on your glad rags and have a good old fashioned knees up down the East End at the Analogue Amnesty party. Maybe we'll see you there?

The start of January saw our hugely successful Newbies meeting where many of you lovely people finally made it out to knit with us and a good few yarn virgins were introduced to the ways of the knit. We hope to see you at a S&B London meeting again very soon!

Last week saw magic happening before our eyes as skeins were turned into cakes! There were even people betting on how many balls of yarn could be made from a giant green skein using the fabulous yarn winder.

(If you're interested, a massive eight balls were wound from that one skein).

Stitch and Analogue Party

You may remember before Christmas we told you of the fantastical exhibition being held by Rachel Matthews of Cast Off Fame. Rachel has been asking folks to bring along their old TDK/VHS tapes to her latest exhibition where she has been turning those precious memories into knitting masterpieces.

The exhibition is coming to a close on THURSDAY 17TH JANUARY, so to celebrate Tatty Devine’s Brick Lane shop are holding a small party which The Stitchettes will be popping along to. We’d love to see you there to have a final dance with the Millers Daughter and see all the wonderful spun yarn.

The magic is all happening between the hours of 6pm and 9pm. If you are interested you will need to RSVP to and be sure to give us a quick mention.

Hope to see you there you woolly lovelies.

Stitch and Glamorama

As I’m sure all S&B Londoner’s know knitwear is not just for cuddling up on the sofa. In your woolly creations you can be transformed into a sparkling diva, a couture beauty or a smouldering sass pot. On FRIDAY 18TH JANUARY the Design Museum is celebrating this fact and is asking you to don your most glamorous yarn wear for the Design Overtime: Glam Night Knit Night.

Until 10pm there will be low-tech couture workshops, millinery, catwalk make-up demonstrations and lots of knitting thrown in.

Tickets are £5 and also gain you entrance into the fabulous exhibition Matthew Williamson – 10 Years in Fashion which finishes at the end of this month. The exhibition is crammed with inspiration in texture, pattern and construction from the man that clothes Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow and Sienna Miller – so lots to aspire to in your next fabulous garment daaarling, mwah, mwah!
