Last night at the wrestling regional finals, I watched our team battle through a tough meet and just come up short. In the finals, I watched the most exciting match I have ever seen in high school wrestling. Chase Knudsen went to double overtime in his bout and with both wrestlers near exhaustion, he pinned his opponent. I've seen overtime and I've seen double overtime. I've never seen a pin in double overtime. It was just sheer willpower!

In light of yesterday's school shooting I said the following to the students this morning:
Many of you are aware of the school shooting in Florida that occurred yesterday. It is sad that these things occur in our American culture on a regular basis. These issues demonstrate why we need you to speak up when you see bullying, harassment, and violence. Our building is only as safe as WE make it. Our school has safety measures that ensure students and staff are safe. Our staff has been trained in how to handle a shooting situation, there are very specific emergency plans, and the area police departments have conducted numerous trainings in this building. Given the fact that the Fremont Police Department is seconds away, I can assure you that we are very well protected.

Also because of the shooting, we are cancelling today's fire drill (a fire drill was used in the school shooting).

Our student section received an "accommodation" from the basketball officials for positive sportsmanship this week. That is very rare and very cool!
