Luke 21:27-28 "At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

THE LAST DAY: DAY OF JOY FOR BELIEVERS

When the Lord returns on the last day it will not be a quiet day but very, very LOUD. Among the sounds that will greet the ears of earth dwellers: the loud command and voice of the chief angel of God and an ear-piercing trumpet blast (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17). The heavens will disappear with a deafening roar. "The elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare" (2 Peter 3:10).

How shall we believers fare on that great and dreadful Day? Will we have reason to tremble? Need we shudder even now as we think about the inevitable coming Day of the Lord when He'll once and for all put an end to evil and diadem the right? The Bible's answer: not at all! No believer in Jesus need fear Judgment Day in the slightest because He paid the debt we owe for our sins by His death on the cross. He volunteered to be punished in our stead, the Guiltless for the guilty. Through faith in Christ we have been dressed in His holiness. Our names are written in His Book of Life. We've been freed from all accusations of Satan and from all condemnation.

The dead in Christ shall first arise At that last trumpet's sounding,
Caught up to meet Him in the skies, With joy their Lord surrounding.
No gloomy fears their souls dismay; His presence sheds eternal day
On those prepared to meet Him.
(The Lutheran Hymnal, 604:2)
