Lab tests 2016

  1. Test of the feces in order to demonstrate the bacterium Helicobacter Pylori. Helicobacter pylori lives in the stomach of people; it can maintain itself for the duration of an entire lifetime. The bacteria is found in about 50% of the world's population and thus it is the causative agent of one of the most common bacterial infections in humans. Most people with H. pylori infection have only mild inflammation of the stomach lining and often no problems at all. But sometimes H. pylori causes the secretion of gastric ulcers, abdominal pain and even stomach cancer. Previously a breath test was done to prove this bacterium. This new test is available in our clinic.
  1. Calpoprectine test to measure the activity of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Inflammatory bowel disease is characterized by chronic inflammation or flashing of the gastrointestinal tract. Previously, we looked at blood values in order to estimate the activity of the IBD. These blood levels show particularly common inflammation values, not specific for inflammation of the intestine. A colonoscopy, which is an internal intestine research, is the best possible way to detect any presence -and to measure the activity- of the inflammation. However, this is an invasive and expensive procedure. Today, a marker in the stool is also considered to measure the degree of inflammation, called calprotectin. Calprotectin is part of the intestinal wall and is released into the stool when an inflammation of the intestine occurs and would therefore be representative in order to measure the presence of inflammation
  1. Test to demonstrate the ZIKA virus. The zika virus is a virus that causes the disease zika fever and is transmitted by a mosquito. But only 1 in 5 people who get infected will get complaints. The symptoms are generally quite mild. The symptoms are fever, eye inflammation, headache, muscle and joint pain and rashes. The disease itself can be harmful for an unborn child and lead to congenital neurological disorders. How often this happens is not clear yet. Pregnant women who return from regions currently affected by zika virus can get tested now.
