Introduction: Very recently, I attended a Church of the Lutheran Confession pastoral conference. I was curious what favorite Bible verses these pastors cling to in their lives and why. So I asked. Twelve pastors responded.

FAVORITE BIBLE VERSES (5)

Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.

"When I'm troubled by my sins or at my wits end over life's many troubles, this passage has stilled my heart with its promise of perfect peace in my Savior God."

Isaiah 40:1-2 "Comfort, yes, comfort My people!" Says your God. "Speak comfort to Jerusalem, and cry out to her, That her warfare is ended, That her iniquity is pardoned; For she has received from the LORD's hand Double for all her sins."

"Here is the comfort in Jesus over my sin and the comfort I am to share with God's people."

Have you seen anything perfect before? Once in awhile I’ll think to myself, "That's a perfect sunset right there!" But then I'll see an even "more perfect" sunset not too long after that. The Word of God IS the only perfect thing in this world. When I am troubled by my sins I see the perfect comfort that my Lord Jesus can only provide. When a brother or sister is troubled by what this sinful world has dealt them, I can comfort them with the peace that passes all understanding! For what we see in that perfect Word of God is comfort for the believer in knowing we have freely received "double" for all our sins! We have been pardoned and received God's "perfect peace!"

Be still, my soul; when sin's guilt takes its toll!
Lord teach me then, to look unto Thy cross.
Grant perfect peace, and calm my fearful soul,
Knowing Thy grace, has redeemed all the lost.
Be still, my soul; to Christ my life I owe,
Trust He remains with me here below.
