Numbers 14:6-9 But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes; and they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying: "The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. If the LORD delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, 'a land which flows with milk and honey.' Only do not rebel against the LORD, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the LORD is with us. Do not fear them."

CALEB: FROM DETECTIVE TO DISCIPLE

Does God keep His promises? Why do you think Joshua and Caleb were confident that the Lord would give them the victory? Their trust in God serves as an example for us today. The race of life that we are running is filled with many obstacles. Pain and problems, hatred and sadness, loneliness and disappointment are all part of our daily lives.

The Apostle Paul encouraged the Christians in Philippi by showing them the contrast between disciples (that is, followers or students) of the world and disciples of Christ saying, "Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind. Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame -- who set their mind on earthly things" (Philippians 3:16-19).

The Lord tells us that we need only trust in Him for He has ALREADY given us the eternal victory in Christ Jesus our Savior! Caleb had learned this faith-lesson and spoke his trust in the LORD as a faithful disciple. No matter what the problem, where we go, or what we do, we should always do our walking with Jesus our Divine Teacher. He has promised to help us wherever and whenever. Jesus gives confidence to His disciples not to run away from Him; but that you and I can run with Him in His strength!

Brave Caleb took a trip one day; He spied a land quite far away.
Reported back, "Oh, yes, it’s true, That God will give this land to you."
They loved their Savior; sang His praise.
They worshiped Him through-out their days.
For thankful champions they could be,
Since Jesus won the victory!
