Hello, Firstname

Wednesday 17 March
Next week we see Round 3 of the Projected Image Competition, judged by Michael Krier ARPS MA(Photography) from Cheltenham. I'm afraid that I can find nothing on the web about Michael to whet your appetite for the evening other than loads of references to him having judged all over the place and most singing his praises.

Bob Faris
Bob Faris' funeral will be held in Bristol on Thursday 25 March in the afternoon and his daughter Paula, would be glad to see his BPS friends there. However, due to Covid restrictions, only 20 people are allowed to attend in person on the 25th, so the service will also be 'Live streamed'. If you would like to attend in person, please email Paula as soon as possible at paulawride@aol.com to reserve a seat and receive further details. The link to the Live stream will be given in BPS newsletter nearer to the date.

We are suggesting that any donations in lieu of flowers go to Bristol Heart Institute please, since they looked after Dad over many years. Cheques may be sent c/o Thomas Davis Funeral Directors, 123 Stoke Lane, Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol BS9 3RW.  If you prefer, you can donate online by going to https://bristol.ourmemorialpages.co.uk/, selecting Dad's memorial page and clicking 'Donate'.

The video includes links to sample images that you can download, so that you can follow the instructions given.

The links are available on the BPS website, just visit the Members' Portal and look in either Guides or Special Interest Groups > Digital Imaging Group

FIAP News
FIAP Update (MARCH 2021)

On 3 March 2021 FIAP announced that the introduction of the changes to the FIAP Distinction Rules (published previously) are being postponed due to constitutional reasons and will not be introduced until they have been put before the next FIAP Congress, which will not take place until 2022 at the earliest.

FIAP have also extended the withdrawal of print acceptance requirements for AFIAP and EFIAP applicants for 2022.

This means that the old rules will remain in place for 2022 at least.

In consequence of this there are the following issues that Exhibitors need to be aware of when planning to enter salons in the near future:-
  • Applicants for EFIAP can use their AFIAP results towards meeting the requirements for EFIAP.
  • Applicants for EFIAP Bronze will NOT be able to use any results towards their application that were gained before the date on their EFIAP certificate, which for IPF exhibitors is usually about mid-May each year.
  • For the time being there will be no EFIAP Diamond d4 or d5 distinctions.
FIAP are also conscious of the current Covid Pandemic and the resulting restrictions which have prevented our normal activities from continuing as we would have liked. For this reason they have also decided to temporarily reduce the fees for the FIAP Life Cards and FIAP Distinctions. These reductions will take effect from 30th June 2021 and will be in place until 30th June 2023.

Under these reductions the cost of a FIAP life card will be reduced from €50 to €25. And the FIAP charge for FIAP Distinctions will be reduced from €70 to €60.

FIAP will soon announce two more international photography competitions open to photographers from all over the world. The first will aim to promote UNESCO’s world cultural heritage. The second one will be reserved to Wildlife Photography. Both competitions will be under FIAP patronage and free of charge entry.

In addition to the acceptances and medals that will count for FIAP distinctions, the Best Author will be invited to the next FIAP Photo-meeting with all expenses paid (flight / transport and accommodation costs).

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Make Money For BPS Every Time You Shop On Amazon!
Now we're all still in lockdown, the thought of on-line shopping must be looming large in many members' minds. It's worth remembering that if you so wish, each and every one of you can support BPS with every purchase you make on Amazon by using Amazon Smile. Click on the link below – then it’s self-explanatory.
Shopping using Smile is no different to your normal Amazon shopping and costs you nothing, it's just that you need to tell it that you wish to use Smile and then we get some pennies!

For Sale
If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include it in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).
