Psalm 8:2 Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.
OUT OF THE MOUTH OF BABES
I doubt that king David, when he wrote these words, knew the full extent of what he was speaking about. But Jesus quotes this Psalm on Palm Sunday, helping us to understand its meaning. How is it that God establishes strength from the mouth of a child?
The apostle Paul declares in his letter to the Romans that he is "not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God unto salvation" (Romans 1:16), and also the world was created by the word of God (Genesis 1).
It is God's choice that His power and strength should work through His word. Since the word of God contains all the power of God, the very power that created heaven and earth, when this word is spoken the rule of God prevails and even Satan must flee before it.
Thus it is true that even if the smallest child speaks the word of God, the strength of God acts through it. When children therefore confess, "Jesus loves me", all of God's enemies are defeated, and they are put to shame because they are defeated by a little child.
This is exactly what happened on Palm Sunday when the children proclaimed the truth of the word of God that Jesus was the Messiah and those who opposed Christ were put to shame because that day the children knew more than they and proclaimed the praises of God.
