L.A. Works Day Corporate Sponsorship Opportunities

Join L.A. Works Day Sponsors Supporting the LAFD Training Center beautification projects and Service Crawl 2012:

L.A. Works began organizing Days of Service events in 1991 to give companies a civic opportunity to impact their community. Since then hundreds of businesses have helped mobilize tens of thousands of volunteers to make a difference in Los Angeles.

Companies choose to get involved for a variety of reasons:
* building their brand with the public;
* enhancing corporate culture, boosting team-work, and productivity through improved employee morale; and
* showing support for improving lives in local communities.

To learn more about corporate fiscal sponsorship opportunities for L.A. Works Day 2012, please email L.A. Works Executive Director, Debbie Brutchey.

This year’s L.A. Works Day of Service volunteers will tend to one of LA's most revered landmarks, the Frank Hotchkin Memorial Training Center in Elysian Park.  The training center is often the focal point from which Angelenos honor first responders who have fallen in the line of duty. The Hotchkin Training Center, the main training center for In-service training is in a grand Art Deco building near Dodger Stadium that once housed a Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center. In 1995, the building was vacated by the military and transferred to the Fire Department. It is named the Frank Hotchkin Memorial Training Center, after a firefighter who died while fighting a fire there in 1980 after falling through a fire-weakened roof.  On how to get involved in the day, click MORE>>>

L.A. Works Enrich & Serve:
Curb the Conflict
This new Enrich and Serve series is designed to provide volunteers with an opportunity to learn new skills and make a deeper connection to service, other volunteers, and the greater community. Our a partnership with Dale Carnegie Training LA, experts in delivering professional trainings, allows us to offer high quality environments for learning, collaborating, and growing as citizens.  Each quarter we'll offer pre-project workshops covering a variety of personal and professional skill building. Volunteers get the opportunity to put their learning into action by spending the second half of the project volunteering at one of L.A. Works’ regular community service projects.

The first Enrich & Serve Series focuses on an issue we've all faced. But do we face it the way we wish we could? Join us on June 12th to uncover the tools of the trade in this conflict resolution workshop followed by our monthly volunteer project Activities With Kids at Zahn Shelter. MORE>>>

  Forest City Digs VA Garden
Memorial Day came early as 60 employees of Forest City converged on the self-sustaining Veterans Affairs Hospital garden. The VA garden, located inside the Veteran's Affairs Hospital complex near Westwood, is hidden a gem in the heart of the city where visitors can buy a variety of beautiful California native plants and support our veterans. The Garden is self-sustaining, relying on donations and sales of its California native plants to the public.  Proceeds from the VA garden's nursery are used to provide stipends for individual Veterans in need of assistance.

Forest City, a construction management company, provided skilled volunteer labor maximizing its volunteer impact and adding to the gardens capacity to benefit its Veterans.  Forest City's group of volunteers spent the day building nursery tables and clearing an overgrown orchard.  After building the nursery tables and clearing the orchard, Forest City volunteers still had time to plant a variety of vegetables in the newly cleared orchard.

  Discover Your IMPACT Day
Discover Your Impact Day is Discovery Communications’ global day of employee volunteerism that takes place each June. Started in 2010 to celebrate Discovery's 25th Anniversary, Impact Day brings the Discovery family into their local communities to give back to organizations that support land, water and people, and underscores Discovery’s commitment to the people and places of the world that inspire our on-air stories.

On June 15th, Discovery employees in more than 20 countries and 35 offices will roll up their sleeves and work in teams to give back to their local communities. More than one-hundred and sixty volunteers from Discovery Communications' LA office will contribute their time and energy refurbishing San Pedro Elementary, a local school in their community. Volunteers will be building garden beds and planting climbing vines along an alley-facing fence.  The playground facilities will also receive a makeover as volunteers install vinyl banners depicting California native plant themes along the playgrounds perimeter.
