1 Kings 18:30 He [Elijah] repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down.
THE FAMILY ALTAR
How's your "Family Altar" running?
"What's a 'Family Altar'?" you ask. "Does it have wheels? Will it take me places?"
A "Family Altar" is the Christian family coming together in the home to worship and learn of its Savior-God. In Old Testament days Elijah took it upon himself to repair the altar of the LORD. It had fallen apart due to lack of use. Other things had taken priority over the true and living God of Israel!
In our rush-about world, other things can easily take priority over that ONE THING NEEDFUL! Bobby has a basketball game tonight. We have a parents' meeting Thursday evening. Then, of course, there's that new release that we just have to see. All in all, we're just so busy! We'll just have to settle for going to church on Sunday.
But is one hour during a 168 hour week enough to keep your family strong in the faith? What would happen if we fed our bodies only once every week?
When we consider our sinfulness and how we daily need assurance of our Savior's forgiveness, when we look at the many threats that Satan poses to our faith, when we reflect upon how fragile we are in times of sickness and trouble, can we really say, "We can get by on a one-hour dose of God's Word every week?"
In a society that is growing more corrupt with each passing year, our families need to get their "Family Altars" up and running. Yes, the "Family Altar" will take your family places, to great places: To Jesus' cross! To His empty tomb! To God's loving and strong arms! In this confusing world, the "Family Altar" will guide your family down paths of perfect and unerring truth! Ask your pastor. He'll be happy to help you get your "Family Altar" up and running.
