Cut A Shine Newsletter - heading into March...
Dear Dancers...
We are very excited to be launching a new weekly class in Appalachian Flatfoot (Tap) Dancing and Square Dance next week. Expanding on the work we have done during the introductory workshops we've hosted at our dances, we now depart on a journey of 2 terms of tuition for those who want to take it just a little bit further (and it's a great way to keep fit!)
Flatfoot Dancing is essentially an early form of Tap Dancing developed in more rural communities, which eventually became Tap Dance as we know it today - it shares many of the same moves and techniques. It's a percussive solo dance style traditionally accompanying banjo and fiddle music.. but once you have the moves down, you can do it do any music, and it resembles a modern EDM dance move, the shuffle...just sayin'...
We'll be working on Flatfoot primarily, but also incorporating the moves into traditional Square Dances... there are loads of videos to check out on our website to give you ideas, so if at all interested, check it out here
