Luke 1:46 And Mary said: "My soul glorifies the Lord."

PRAISE HIM, PRAISE HIM

Psalm 92 says: "It is good to praise the LORD . . ." Thus Mary did well when she glorified the name of God upon greeting her relative Elizabeth in the hill country of Judea.

What does it mean to glorify God? It means to hold His name up for all to see. It means to point to Him and say, "Look! See what He has done! See that He is the great King above all!" On this occasion, Mary's praise reflected what God had done for her in sending His only Son into her own womb. Surely this was cause to delare to others His greatness -- for nobody else could do such a thing. The Father was now sending forth the Redeemer, the One who would save His people from their sins, and He would be called Jesus! Mary was to deliver the very One who would deliver her.

So she praised Him. She held His name in highest honor before Elizabeth, earnestly glorifying her God in the presence of another.

Part of our Christmas preparation involves praise. May we also glorify the name of the Lord in front of others, sharing with them the great things He has done for us. Is there someone you know before whom you can praise Him this very day? How can we contain ourselves? After all, this Child is not just born to Mary, but unto us a Son is given.
