IMMEDIATE ACTION IS NEEDED!
PLEASE HELP MONDAY, APRIL 11
The Coalition of McKay Scholarship Schools and other stake holders have been supporting the passage of HB 1329 and SB 1656.  This bill would allow students with disabilities who are on a 504 plan to access the McKay Scholarship.

It has passed through two committees in the House, but it has been stalled in the Senate.

If the bill is not heard by next Friday (April 15) in the Senate Education Committee, it has no chance of passing this year.

Monday morning we need every McKay Scholarship School to have 5-10 parents call and email Senate President Mike Haridopolos and ask him to get the bill placed back in committee so that at least it can be heard.

Please spend one hour on Monday contacting your parents and having them call and email.

Below are bullet points and template they may use. Attached are more extensive bullet points for the bill.
CALLING AND EMAILING
Parents should contact Senate President Mike Haridopolos by both calling and emailing.  The phone number is (850) 487-5056 and email is haridopolos.mike.web@flsenate.gov.
Send a cc: to buford.rivers.s26@flsenate.gov as well.

Subject Line of Email:
   Put SB 1656 (McKay Bill) back on Agenda

   Phone and or email should use the following points:

   1)  Identify yourself.  If you have a child with a disability, in    one sentence give the disability.  If you use the McKay Scholarship, in one sentence tell how much of a difference it has made.  If your child was ever on a 504 plan, make that point.

   2)  Ask Senate President Haridopolos to use his influence to help us get SB 1656 in committee this week so that our reasons for it may be heard.

   3)  This bill  should be supported because:
           a)  Students on a 504 plan have disabilities;
           b)  Parents need options when the public school is     not able to meet their child's needs;
           c)  If the bill is changed to conform to HB 1329, there will be no fiscal impact to the state or district budget but the impact on children will be enormous.

  End with a plea to Sen. Haridopolos to be a leader for children with disabilities.

   Sign your name and city.

SUBJECT LINE:  Let SB 1656 (McKay) be heard

Dear Senate President Haridopolos,

I am a parent of a child with __________________ (identify disability).  I have been able to use the McKay Scholarship and it has made a world of difference in my child's life.  There are a group of disabled children in Florida who do not get to use the McKay Scholarship and I think their parents deserve the same options I have had.  These are the students on 504 plans.

Please help us to get SB 1656 heard by the Senate Education Committee and moved through the Senate this week.  Parents of children with disabilities need to have the opportunity to voice why this bill is so important.  I don't understand why it has been pulled from the committee this week.

(IF YOU WANT TO PUT IN THE BULLET POINTS HERE THAT'S FINE BUT THE EMPHASIS IS LET THE BILL BE HEARD)

You can be a leader and inspiration for children with disabilities all across Florida by helping us bring this bill to the Senators.

Sincerely,

Your Name
