Luke 2:4-5 And Joseph also went up from Galilee ... to be registered with Mary.

BUT MARY TREASURED UP ALL THESE THINGS, PONDERING THEM IN HER HEART

Even when we are young it is difficult to recall precisely what happened every minute of every day. And the older we get the more happenings there are for us to remember. What's more, at Christmastime we can be bombarded by so many events in close succession that a month later we have trouble remembering them all, let alone pondering them.

But we don't need absolute idleness in order to remember and ponder the magnificent events which we celebrate this week. The hours of driving over such holidays, the otherwise tedious tasks around the home, even the rocking and caring for an infant can afford time to remember and to ponder God's wondrous love in saving lost mankind. No doubt Mary was engaged in some of these chores with her newborn child, and it gave her chance to reflect on things.

She might have remembered how God had preserved her and Joseph, and then the two of them with the baby, over so many miles-- from Nazareth to Bethlehem to Egypt and back to Nazareth again. It had not been a good time to start a journey in the first place, as close to delivery as she had been. But God had kept them safe from all harm and danger in order to fulfill His promises to all mankind!

Surely such a God will continue to care for all of His children, for you and for me, in the travels that lie ahead of us! He who gave His own Son to be with us always will certainly see us home!

Then the glory
Then the rest
Then the Sabbath peace unbroken....
