1 Thessalonians 4:13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.
FACTS CONCERNING THE FINAL RESURRECTION: DO NOT BE IGNORANT
There is an expression which goes, "Knowledge is power." It's true, often the more we know about something, the better off we are in a certain respect. I know I always feel a little bit better when I learn how to do a certain home repair project on my own. That way, if the problem ever comes up again, I don't have to worry about not knowing what to do to fix the problem and potentially being faced with a hefty bill from the repair man. In many areas of life, it is better to know than not to know, especially when it is to know where the solution to a problem lies. This can give a person a certain amount of peace of mind and hope in dealing with a problem.
Well, fixing a leaking pipe or dealing with the things of this world can be good things in their own right, but the knowledge that every one of us does well to have is knowledge of those things pertaining to salvation and eternal life. This is the kind of knowledge that can only come to us through God's Holy Word.
In our devotions for this week, we will be given some of this all-important knowledge from God's Word regarding the topic of the final resurrection. Because God has told us these things in His Word, we don't have to be ignorant, or even afraid, like many in this world are when it comes to matters of life and death. Rather, God gives us knowledge about these things through His Word so that we can be filled with joy and hope to know that all who believe in Jesus as their Savior will be saved and live eternally, even rising from their graves to bodily meet their Lord at the final resurrection.
